Shannon Sharpe isn’t buying Matt LaFleur’s preseason take on Jordan Love.
After the Packers coach stirred the pot by saying Love is a better pre-snap quarterback than Aaron Rodgers, Sharpe pushed back hard on his “Nightcap” podcast. The Hall of Famer said LaFleur went too far by putting Love in the same breath as a quarterback with four MVPs.
“All you gotta do is say Jordan Love is a really great pre-snap read," Sharpe said. You don’t compare and say he’s better than Rodgers.
The man got four MVPs, only Peyton Manning got more. Jordan Love better win five MVPs and at least get to a couple of Super Bowls before we can have this conversation.”
Rodgers had already made his feelings clear this week on “Wilde and Tausch,” calling LaFleur a “clown” for the comment. He didn’t dismiss Love’s ability, but he bristled at the comparison.
"Matt is a clown, man. He says some things from time to time that are funny, and then he goes 'Oh, maybe I shouldn't have said that!'
He's backing up his quarterback. I'm sure J-Love is real good at the line of scrimmage, but c'mon man."
Love spent his first three NFL seasons behind Rodgers before taking over as the Packers’ starter after Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets ahead of the 2023 season. Since then, he has guided Green Bay to a 27-19-1 record over the last three seasons.
Rodgers, meanwhile, has been making headlines of his own as he closes in on the end of his career. Earlier this year, he announced that his 2026 season with the Steelers would be his last. The longtime Packers star also used a recent appearance on the “Not Just Football” podcast with Steelers teammates Cam Heyward to take aim at two former Packers teammates who he said had spoken out about him.
“I had two teammates who spoke out about me years ago, two teammates out of all the people I ever played with that didn’t have a good experience with me," Rodgers said. "One was bitter because he went to another team and never became a player again.
"The other just wasn’t a smart person. And that one hurt more, because I spent so much time with him.
The night before games, I’d be in his room for an hour going over the plan, the checks, everything I was going to do. I went above and beyond for that guy."
Rodgers is also set to reunite with former Packers coach Mike McCarthy for his final NFL season in Pittsburgh.
