Green Bay is back in camp, Jordan Love is back in the spotlight, and Matt LaFleur just made a comparison that is bound to travel fast.
On Monday, the Packers head coach didn’t just praise Love - he said he believes the 27-year-old quarterback is the best he has coached in his career. LaFleur made the comments during an appearance with Stacey Dales and Brian Baldinger of NFL Network, pointing to Love’s command, his calm approach, and the way he handles the details that often separate a good quarterback from a great one.

“I'm in most of those quarterback meetings, and just the conversations and to watch his growth has been, really, a fun process,” LaFleur said about Love. “He's a great guy to work with every day. He's so consistent, so even-keeled, and I think that's why in those critical moments he can go out there and perform at a high level…
“He's gotta be the best I've been around in terms of protections and adjustments,” LaFleur continued about Love. “And rarely does he get out-schemed.
It's pretty remarkable. That was all foreign to him coming into the league, and I think having the opportunity to sit back and learn from Aaron and watch him do it at the level he did it, I think, was invaluable… Hey, Aaron's gonna get mad about this, but it's uncanny what [Love] can do at the line of scrimmage with our protection and adjustments.”
That last part is the kind of line that will definitely catch Rodgers’ attention. LaFleur coached the future Hall of Famer for four seasons before the Packers traded him to the New York Jets ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. He also knows Rodgers’ influence on Love’s development isn’t exactly a small detail here.
Green Bay selected Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but he didn’t get on the field until the 2021-22 campaign, when he was still backing up Rodgers. Since taking over as the starter, Love has continued to trend upward, and he finished last season with 3,381 passing yards and 23 touchdowns while completing 66.3% of his pass attempts.
LaFleur’s praise may stir up Rodgers, but it also says plenty about how far Love has come. The Packers trusted him to grow behind one of the game’s most accomplished quarterbacks, and now LaFleur is pointing to that patience as a major reason Love is so polished when the game is on the line.
