Porter Jr. remains without a contract extension, with both sides failing to strike a deal and appearing to be at an impasse. He was officially listed as inactive in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, and Pittsburgh said the cornerback sat out because of a back injury. Even so, some around the league have questioned that explanation, especially given the timing.
That backdrop has kept Porter Jr. in the rumor mill, where he was already the subject of trade talk during the offseason. Nothing has advanced to a serious point yet, but the idea of a move is no longer being treated like pure fantasy. Two Super Bowl contenders are now being linked as teams worth watching if Pittsburgh ever decides to make him available: the Chiefs and the Lions.

Reed and Rock Ya-Sin as their starting outside corners, with Keith Abney II behind them as a backup. That thin setup is why Porter Jr. has surfaced as a possible target.
Nothing is done, and these are still only rumors. But if the Steelers and Porter Jr. can’t get past their current standoff, the Chiefs and Lions are two teams that could be ready to pounce. Another club could always jump in too, if the cornerback actually hits the market.
