Jordan Love didn’t sound like a quarterback watching a teammate leave. He sounded like someone genuinely happy to see Kyle McCord land on his feet.
The Green Bay Packers dealt the reserve quarterback to the Miami Dolphins over the weekend before cutting their roster to 53 players, sending McCord to South Beach in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick. On paper, the move made clean sense for both sides. Miami had already traded Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars and needed another backup behind Malik Willis.
But Love made it clear Tuesday that the human side of the deal mattered too.
“No, it's been good. You know, our relationship's grown.
Kyle's been here, you know, since OTAs, and we've got, you know, close with each other in that time. But, you know, I'm excited for Kyle.
You know, I think what a great opportunity for him. You know, he balled out in preseason.
He played really good. You know, I was pretty impressed by the way he went out there and handled business,” Love said.
He kept going, pointing to the reality of the league and the chance McCord now has in front of him.
“And, you know, that's how it goes in NFL. You know, you get an opportunity to go be a backup somewhere and, you know, got to take that.

McCord’s path to this point has already taken a few turns. The Philadelphia Eagles drafted him in the sixth round in 2025, and he later signed a futures deal with the Packers in January to keep his NFL career moving and sharpen his game. Now he’s headed to a Dolphins team that isn’t good now but appears committed to giving young players a chance, a setup that fits his timeline.
