Jordan Love doesn’t need a rescue mission on Sunday, but he does need a statement.
The Packers quarterback’s raw season line still looks respectable enough at first glance: 1,041 passing yards, eight touchdowns, three interceptions. The problem is the 56.5% completion rate, which is the clearest sign that this offense hasn’t quite clicked the way Green Bay needs it to. That has to change fast, and Week 5 against the Chicago Bears feels like the place to start.
Green Bay wants this game to feel like it is taking back control of the season. A patchwork offensive line has made life tough for Love, and there’s no pretending otherwise.
But the expectation around him is bigger than surviving bad protection. The Packers believe his ceiling is that of a top-five quarterback, and that kind of player has to show up in a game like this.
The biggest issue right now is how Love responds when pressure closes in. He has to be comfortable standing in the pocket and taking hits without losing his edge.
At the moment, that’s the part of his game that needs the most work. When the pressure starts to build, his play slips.
That has to stop if Green Bay is going to steady itself against a divisional opponent.
There’s also a real opportunity here because Caleb Williams is not expected to start for Chicago after missing the previous two weeks, even though he resumed practicing this week. If Williams does somehow make it back, the Bears quarterback would still be dealing with rust. Either way, this is a game where Love should be the best starter on the field.
And if he isn’t, the scrutiny is going to get louder.
Another flat outing would only increase the pressure on a quarterback who has enough talent around him to help push this team forward. The run game and offensive line remain obvious problems, but Love still has to find a way to compete through them.
That’s where Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson, and Matthew Golden come in. Even without consistent success on the ground, the Packers have enough skill talent to keep the offense moving.
The coaching staff also has a part to play here by leaning into a quicker passing game and easing some of the strain on Love early. Screens and slants make sense if the run game isn’t going to set the table.
This isn’t just about the box score. It’s about whether Love can deliver the kind of performance that changes the feel of the season and helps push Chicago in the wrong direction in a tight NFC North race.
Sunday gives him the chance to do exactly that. It’s the kind of matchup where a breakout game would go a long way toward reminding everyone why Green Bay still sees him as a quarterback with top-five potential.

Packers Mourn The Loss Of A Champion Who Never Left Green Bay
Nelson Toburen was one of those Packers whose impact lasted far beyond his playing days. The former Green Bay linebacker was part of two NFL championship teams, and when his football career ended early, he built another life in Wisconsin as an attorney and later as a state district judge. Even after leaving the field, he stayed tied to the franchise and remained a familiar part of the Packers extended family.
Toburens story carried a toughness that fit the era and the organization, from championship runs in Green Bay to the abrupt end of his career in 1962. He went on to earn respect in the courtroom, but his connection to the Packers never really faded, which is why his passing on October 4 lands as more than just a footnote for the team. It feels like the loss of one of the last links to a championship generation that helped define Green Bay. [Read more 🡒]
Packers Suddenly Need Pierre Strong Jr. More Than Anyone Expected
Green Bay turned to Pierre Strong Jr. this week, activating the running back from the practice squad ahead of Sundays matchup with the Bears. The move comes with the Packers searching for any spark they can find on the ground, a concern that has only grown as the offense has struggled to get its rushing game moving.
The timing underscores how urgent the problem has become. Through four games, Green Bay sat last in the NFL in rushing yards with 232, a startling figure for a team that expected more balance early in the season. Whether Strong can change that picture right away remains unclear, but the Packers are clearly willing to give him a look in a spot where they need answers fast. [Read more 🡒]
Bears-Packers Just Took On An Emotional Twist Packers Fans Will Feel
Mike Ditkas death at 86 has given this weeks Bears-Packers matchup a far more personal edge than a typical rivalry game. The former Chicago tight end and coach was a Hall of Famer who helped define an era in Bears history, including the franchises Super Bowl title in 1985, and both the team and current coach Ben Johnson have already acknowledged the scope of what Ditka meant to the organization.
For Packers fans, the emotional layer is impossible to miss because it changes the feel of a game that is usually all about the present tense. Chicago supporters have been looking for a way to honor one of their most iconic figures in the first meeting since his passing, and the attention now shifts to how that tribute might show up when the Bears take the field against Green Bay.
