Jordan Love is headed into a matchup that comes with an odd little wrinkle: he has never made a start against the New York Jets.
That changes Sunday, Sept. 20, when the Green Bay Packers quarterback takes the field at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Love did see the Jets once before, but only in a limited role back in 2023 when he stepped in for Aaron Rodgers. New York won that game 27-10, and Love finished 2 of 4 for eight yards.
This time, the Packers are asking him to carry the offense from the opening snap after a huge Week 1 showing against the Minnesota Vikings. Love went 21 of 42 for 387 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, but Green Bay still came up short in a 39-22 loss.
That result dropped the Packers into a six-game losing streak, an unusual stretch for a franchise that rarely sits in that kind of hole. It’s not on Love alone, but the pressure around him is real as he walks into a Jets defense that wants to make a statement of its own.
New York is coming off a 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans, and second-year quarterback Cam Ward was kept in check. He completed 19 of 32 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown, averaging just 4.4 yards per completion.
The Jets’ inability to force an interception remains a talking point after they failed to snag one against Ward. That doesn’t make the secondary a weakness, but it does set up an interesting test against Love, who can get aggressive with his throws when he presses.
There was plenty to like about Love’s performance against Minnesota. He looked like a quarterback growing more comfortable in his own skin, and the numbers backed it up.
