Emanuel Wilson, a Fort Valley State University alumnus and former Green Bay Packers running back, has inked a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. This $2.1 million contract strengthens the Seahawks' backfield following the departure of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III.
Seattle's General Manager, John Schneider, praised Wilson during an interview on Seattle Sports radio, highlighting the running back's potential impact. “Our pro staff did a great job evaluating Emanuel,” Schneider said.
“Here’s this 230-pound guy with great feet. You sign a one-year deal like that, it’s an invitation to be part of our culture, to prove yourself, and compete.
He’s a heavy runner, and we’re excited about him.”
Wilson's journey began at Johnson C. Smith University, where he quickly made a name for himself, racking up 1,040 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, along with 13 receptions for 86 yards.
He then transferred to Fort Valley State University, continuing to impress with 2,086 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns over two seasons. His 2022 performance, featuring over 1,200 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, put him on the NFL radar.
He also showcased his versatility with 20 catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Wilson signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent before moving to the Green Bay Packers. He became a crucial part of the Packers' offense, stepping up when Josh Jacobs was sidelined by injury.
Wilson's standout moment came in a 23-6 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, where he carried the ball 28 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Packers' ground game. With just 22 passes attempted by Jordan Love and Malik Willis, the team leaned heavily on the run, amassing 146 rushing yards.
Now with the Seahawks, Wilson adds an intriguing dynamic to their offensive lineup as they aim to defend their Super Bowl title next season.
