Cowboys Welcome Former Packers Starter to the Roster
The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers have developed quite the rapport when it comes to player trades and signings. Last year's blockbuster involving Micah Parsons certainly turned heads across the league. This season, while trading Rashan Gary to Dallas might not have made as much noise, it still underscored the open line of communication between these two storied franchises.
Now, the Cowboys have added another former Packer to their ranks.
Corey Ballentine Joins the Cowboys
On Monday, the Cowboys announced the signing of cornerback Corey Ballentine to a one-year deal. Ballentine, who was part of Green Bay's roster last year before being released during the final cuts in August, has had an interesting journey. Over three seasons with the Packers, he played in 37 games, starting in seven of them.
After a brief stint with New England, Ballentine found his way to Dallas, spending most of the season on their practice squad. This new contract offers him a golden opportunity to compete for a starting spot. Throughout his career, Ballentine has racked up:
- 75 Career Games
- 11 Starts
- 1 Interception
- 9 Pass Deflections
- 103 Total Tackles
Standing at 5'11" and weighing 196 pounds, Ballentine boasts a 4.47-second 40-yard dash. While his speed is evident on the field, he's yet to fully harness his potential. At 29, this season is crucial for him to prove his worth and aim for a multi-year contract.
The Cowboys' official website hinted back in February that if Ballentine shows promise, he could be a valuable asset as a backup cornerback. With his 30th birthday approaching in April, time is of the essence for him to make a lasting impression.
Dallas seems prepared to give Ballentine another chance to shine on the field.
