Tony Cornett II is headed to Toledo, and the commitment gives the Rockets a major recruiting win with one of the most coveted guards in the Class of 2027.
The 6-foot-7 guard had drawn interest from Ohio State and held offers from Ohio, Dayton, LaSalle, Miami of Ohio, Duquesne and several others before making his decision this afternoon. For Toledo, landing Cornett means adding a player who is already viewed as the most highly ranked recruit in the program’s recent memory.
Cornett said the fit stood out because of how the program uses bigger guards.
“ Toledo usually allows bigger guards to play their games, and really play the way they’ve been playing a majority of their lives,” Cornett told ZAGSBLOG.
He also pointed to the relationship he built with the staff.
“(The Toledo staff) showed me the most love throughout my recruitment and also to my family as well.”
Cornett has built his reputation as a versatile scorer with real size and feel. He averaged 15.4 points and 4.2 rebounds entering the UAA finals in Georgia this past week, and he has been a steady force for Nova Village on the UAA circuit. His production has come in a lot of different ways, including a 31-point, eight-rebound, six-assist outing earlier in the 2026 AAU season.
He is hovering around the Top-100 national rankings and has also been a double double threat at Westerville North HS (Oh.). There, he has helped lead the public school program to a 51-4 record across his sophomore and junior seasons.
