Three Gonzaga players are headed to one of the summer’s premier hoops stages.
Dooney Johnson, Davis Fogle and Massamba Diop were all invited to the Nike Basketball Academy, the three-day event in Thousand Oaks, CA, that runs August 5-7 and brings together a loaded group of high school and college talent for workouts and scrimmages in front of elite coaches and players.
Johnson, a 4-star 2027 guard and Gonzaga commit since October, is coming off a standout summer on the Nike EYBL circuit. He drew attention at Pangos All-American camp, NBPA Top 100 and Peach Jam, where his team reached the semifinals. That run helped earn him a spot on the EYBL First Team with Beckham Black, Cayden Daughtry, Demarcus Henry and Lewis Uvwo, all top ten prospects in the 2027 class.
At 6'7 with a long wingspan and the instincts of a point guard, Johnson gives Gonzaga a prospect with serious upside. He can operate on or off the ball, and even though his outside shot is still coming along, his ability to attack downhill and push in transition makes him a major long-term piece for the Zags when he arrives in Spokane for the 2027-28 season.
Fogle’s stock has been rising for a while now. He turned heads last summer at Compass Prep as a senior, then forced his way into Gonzaga’s rotation as a freshman with his scoring touch and nonstop effort at both ends.
With Tyon Grant-Foster, Jalen Warley, Adam Miller, Emmanuel Innocenti and Steele Venters gone from last season’s perimeter group, he looks like one of the clearest sophomore breakout candidates in the country. Nike Elite Youth Basketball even posted images on Instagram of Fogle throwing down a big dunk.
The 6'7 guard is also in position to be Gonzaga’s second scoring option behind returning senior big man Braden Huff.
Diop brings a different kind of punch. The 7'1 big man from Senegal projects as a rim protector and low-post scorer, and Gonzaga beat out a push from Rick Pitino and St.
John's to land him in May after he played well last season at Arizona State. In Spokane, he and Huff give coach Few a frontcourt duo with real bite.
With Diop inside, Fogle on the wing and transfers Javon Bennett and Isiah Harwell in the mix, Gonzaga looks built to make a strong first-year run as a member of the Pac-12.

A familiar Gonzaga name is headed to a new pro stop, and this one adds another layer to a Valencia Basket roster that already has a former Bulldog in place. Oumar Ballo, who played for Gonzaga before moving on to Arizona and Indiana, has begun his professional career overseas and now lands with the reigning Spanish champions after earlier stops in Italy and Rwanda.
What makes the move especially notable for Gonzaga followers is the company he will keep there. Mario Saint-Supery, who left Gonzaga to sign a long-term deal with Valencia Basket after Sergio de Larrea headed to the NBA, is already part of the setup, giving the Spanish club another link back to Spokane as it builds around familiar college talent. Gonzagas Final Roster Spot Hinges On One Complicated Guard Decision
Gonzagas offseason roster picture still has some moving parts, with 12 of 15 spots currently spoken for and three players waiting on eligibility decisions. Nathan de Sousa, Izan Almansa and Skylar Wicks are all still in limbo, even as the Bulldogs have already added transfers Javon Bennett and Chauncey Wiggins and continue to look at more backcourt help.
The bigger issue may be the guard market itself, where Gonzaga has tracked several targets whose situations are anything but simple. The Bulldogs are still eyeing options such as Lee, Donovan Dent and Edwards, but each comes with uncertainty that could shape whether he is available for this season, and in some cases whether a path to campus is even clear yet.
