Gonzaga Just Gained A Must-Watch Rivalry In The New Pac-12

San Diego State gears up for an exciting debut in the Pac-12, featuring a headline-making showdown with Gonzaga as they aim to reclaim their dominance on the West Coast.

San Diego State’s first Pac-12 basketball schedule has arrived, and the games everyone circled are right where you’d expect: the Gonzaga matchups.

The Aztecs will get two shots at the perennial West Coast heavyweight in their debut conference season, with the first meeting set for Feb. 6 at Viejas Arena. The return trip to Spokane comes on Feb. 27, when SDSU visits the Kennel in the third-to-last game of the regular season.

That’s a marquee pair of dates in a 16-game round robin that also sends the Aztecs through a familiar lineup of Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and Utah State. Those four schools joined SDSU in leaving the Mountain West for the Pac-12 on July 1.

The rest of the league is made up of Washington State, Oregon State and newcomer Texas State.

SDSU opens its Pac-12 era on Jan. 6 at Oregon State. The first home conference game lands three days later, on Jan. 9 against Fresno State.

Tip times and TV assignments will be announced later.

The Gonzaga games bring a lot of weight because these are two of the most established programs on the West Coast. Gonzaga’s NCAA Tournament streak now stands at 27 straight seasons, most of it under Mark Few, who was recently inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. San Diego State has been to March Madness six times under Brian Dutcher, beginning with the 2017-18 season.

The Aztecs enter this new league chapter trying to move past what was, by the program’s standards, a brutal year. They were picked as Mountain West favorites in the preseason and ended up missing the NCAA Tournament entirely.

History between SDSU and Gonzaga has been tight. The teams have played six times dating to the 1959-60 season and split those games 3-3. Five of those meetings have come since 2010-11.

At Viejas Arena, San Diego State beat Gonzaga 72-70 in 2017-18 before falling 80-67 in the most recent matchup, during the 2024-25 season.

The Aztecs have also had success in Spokane, going 2-1 there. Their biggest win in the series came on Dec. 29, 2023, when they knocked off No.

13 Gonzaga 84-74 at McCarthey Athletic Center. That loss ended the Zags’ 59-game non-conference home winning streak and marked their first double-digit home defeat in 173 games.

San Diego State has more ground to make up against the Pac-12’s legacy members. Washington State is 6-0 all-time against the Aztecs, with the series dating back to the 1975-76 season.

Oregon State is 1-0 after beating SDSU in Corvallis on Dec. 17, 1971.

There’s also a return meeting with Texas State on the schedule. The Aztecs will host the Bobcats on Jan. 20, then play at Texas State on Feb.

  1. It’s the fourth meeting between the schools and the first since the 1997-98 season, with SDSU holding a 2-1 edge in the series.

San Diego State’s full Pac-12 slate runs as follows:

Gonzaga Still Faces An Eligibility Cloud Over Two Key Players

A hearing in Santa Clara County this week kept the spotlight on Gonzaga players Xaivian Lee and Ines Bettencourt, whose push for a fifth year of college eligibility remains tied up in a lawsuit against the NCAA. The session was aimed at a preliminary injunction, and for now the case sits in a holding pattern while both players continue to move through team activities under a temporary restraining order.

No ruling came down at the hearing, which means the uncertainty around their status is still hanging over Gonzaga as the season gets closer. A continuation is set for October 20, leaving the Bulldogs to wait on a legal process that could determine whether Lee and Bettencourt are cleared to keep practicing and taking part in upcoming events as the case unfolds. Gonzagas First Pac-12 Schedule Just Revealed A Tough New Reality

Gonzagas first season in the Pac-12 now has a complete shape, with the conference releasing its mens basketball schedule and the Bulldogs filling in the rest of a 31-game regular season. The slate shows the kind of transition that comes with a new league home: 16 conference games in a double round-robin format, plus at least 15 nonconference dates that still have to be navigated around a packed winter calendar.

For Gonzaga, the release does more than settle dates on paper. It clarifies where the biggest tests will land, when the conference grind begins, and how much room there is for the Bulldogs to build momentum before the Pac-12 Tournament. The full schedule gives Mark Fews team its first real look at what life in the league will demand, and it leaves one obvious question hanging in the air: how quickly can Gonzaga turn a new setting into a familiar routine? Gonzagas 2026-27 Schedule Sets Up Several Massive Early Tests

Gonzagas 2026-27 mens basketball slate is now in place after the Pac-12 released its conference schedule, and it sets up a heavyweight start to the season. The Bulldogs will go through two exhibition games, 15 non-conference matchups and 16 league games before the conference tournament in Las Vegas, with the early portion of the schedule loaded with the kind of opponents that tend to tell a program plenty about where it stands.

Purdue, Kansas State, Michigan State, Oregon and Duke are all on the list, giving Mark Fews team little room to ease into the year. The season opener has also been announced, but the broader picture is already clear: Gonzaga will be tested quickly, and those early results should shape the conversation around a team that expects to be in the spotlight from the start.
