Former Zag Rasir Bolton Just Took Another Big Step Overseas

Rasir Bolton's journey from Gonzaga standout to European league contender continues as he joins the esteemed ranks of Liga Endesa with Rio Breogan.

Rasir Bolton is headed to one of the highest levels of professional basketball in Europe.

The former Gonzaga guard has signed with Rio Breogan in Spain’s Liga Endesa, giving him a new stop in a pro career that has already taken him through five teams and five different countries over the last five seasons. Breogan finished 11th in the 18-team league last year with a 15-19 record.

Bolton spent last season with Napoli in Italy’s LBA, where the 6-foot-5 guard put up 13.9 points and 4.2 assists in 27 games. He ranked second on the team in both scoring and assists.

Before that, he played for Spartak in Serbia’s ABA, averaging 13.4 points in 28 games while shooting 35.3% from three. His first pro season came in Belgium with Antwerp, where he averaged a career-best 17.6 points in 29 games and hit 37.3% of his attempts from beyond the arc.

For Bolton, the move to Spain marks another step up. Liga Endesa is widely regarded as one of the top basketball leagues on the planet, and Bolton is set to join it in 2026-27.

His path to this point has been just as winding in college. Bolton started at Penn State in 2018-19, transferred to Iowa State for two seasons, then finished his final two years at Gonzaga.

At Gonzaga, he became a dependable two-way piece for two strong teams. He started all 69 games he played for the Bulldogs and averaged 10.6 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 50.9% on twos and 42.5% from three.

On Gonzaga’s 2021-22 team with Chet Holmgren, Drew Timme, Julian Strawther, and Andrew Nembhard, Bolton’s outside shooting and on-ball defense helped hold the starting group together. He also came through in big moments, scoring 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting in the WCC Tournament championship game against Saint Mary’s and 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting in Gonzaga’s 82-78 NCAA Tournament win over Memphis.

Bolton is the latest former Zag to land in Liga Endesa, joining a list that includes Izan Almansa with Real Madrid, Mario Saint-Supery and Killian Tillie with Malaga, and Massamba Diop and Kevin Pangos with Gran Canaria.

Seven Former Zags Are Still Fighting For Their NBA Future

The NBA Summer League has become a familiar proving ground for Gonzaga alumni, and this year is no different, with several former Zags trying to turn brief opportunities into something more lasting. Graham Ike is there with the Golden State Warriors on an Exhibit 10 deal, Tyon Grant-Foster is set to suit up for the San Antonio Spurs, and Jalen Warley is joining the Indiana Pacers when their summer run begins July 10.

Ike already gave Golden State a reason to keep watching after making his first Summer League appearance and showing he can contribute right away. Warley now gets his own chance to make an impression in Indiana, while the broader picture for Gonzagas NBA pipeline remains the same: a collection of familiar names chasing roster spots, two-way looks and whatever foothold they can find before the league calendar moves on. Gonzaga Set To Honor A Major NBA Alum In A Big Way

Gonzaga is preparing to put a major spotlight on one of its most successful basketball alums, with the university announcing that its strength and conditioning facility for both the mens and womens programs will be renamed in his honor. The move comes after the former Bulldog standout, now an NBA player, pledged a transformative gift to support the mens basketball program, adding another layer to a long-running pipeline that has helped turn Gonzaga into one of college basketballs more visible producers of pro talent.

The dedication is set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday inside the Volkar Center for Athletic Achievement, and it arrives as the program continues to see its former players make an impact at the next level. Gonzagas NBA presence has also become a point of pride off the court, with the school noting the earnings of several alumni and its place near the top of the national list in combined NBA income, trailing only Kentucky and Duke. Massamba Diop Is Suddenly Fueling Gonzagas Next NBA Buzz

Gonzagas future front line is already drawing a lot of attention, and Massamba Diop is a big reason why. The 7-foot-1 center from Senegal is part of a projected sophomore core for the 2026-27 season that also includes Davis Fogle, Isiah Harwell and Mario Saint-Supery, a group that has started popping up on early NBA draft boards and giving the Bulldogs a familiar kind of national buzz.

Diop has been the most eye-catching name in that mix, with early projections placing him in the lottery conversation and adding to the sense that Gonzaga could be building another team with real pro-level talent. If that group develops the way the program hopes, the Bulldogs should have the kind of roster that can contend in the Pac-12 and make another serious NCAA Tournament run, even if the long-term challenge becomes keeping those players in Spokane long enough to see it through.
