Country Club Tasmania is setting the stage for a thrilling new chapter, and the excitement reached a peak this month as local cricket legend Ricky Ponting took the inaugural swing on the first nine completed holes of the resort’s brand-new Championship Golf Course.
This $20 million redevelopment is transforming the Prospect Vale property into one of Australia’s most ambitious golf destinations, with the full 18 holes set to open in the summer of 2026-27. Ponting, along with other sports stars and VIP guests, enjoyed a preview round that offered a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come.
Ponting, serving as an official ambassador for the course, was clearly impressed. “Playing the first nine holes for the very first time was just extraordinary,” he shared after finishing the round. “I can now visualize exactly what this magnificent facility is going to be.”
The course, crafted by renowned architect Robin Gibson, embraces a parkland style that highlights Tasmania’s natural beauty. With mature trees, stone bridges, creeks, and lakes seamlessly integrated into the design, it brings a fresh and exciting dimension to the state’s golf scene. Ponting, a proud Launceston native, emphasized its unique contribution to Tasmania’s offerings.
The broader redevelopment of Country Club Tasmania also features The Range, a modern golf-entertainment precinct that opened in 2026. It includes Toptracer driving bays, an 18-hole mini-golf course, and a vibrant clubhouse atmosphere. Together, The Range and the new Championship Course are poised to establish the resort as one of Australia’s premier golf destinations.
As the masterplan unfolds over the coming years, visitors can look forward to an exceptional blend of golf, leisure, dining, and entertainment-all conveniently located just minutes from Launceston’s CBD.
