Auston Kim Stuns with Stellar Opening Round at Singapore Championship

Auston Kim shines with remarkable precision at the HSBC Women's World Championship, setting the pace in a star-studded field.

Auston Kim made a statement in the opening round of the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore, showcasing her putting prowess with just 21 putts and tying for the most birdies at seven. Her impressive 6-under 66 at Sentosa Golf Club has her sitting atop the leaderboard, one stroke ahead of a field packed with talent.

Reflecting on her performance, Kim noted a significant improvement from last year’s opening round of 78. "It feels great to score well," she shared, emphasizing the progress in her mental game. With guidance from her mental coach, Kim has been focusing on winning each day and each shot, a strategy that clearly paid off.

Hot on her heels is China's Yan Liu, just one shot back with a 67. Meanwhile, five players, including major champion Miyu Yamashita, are two strokes behind at 4 under.

Yamashita, making her debut in this event, delivered a flawless bogey-free 68. Known for her success last year, including a victory at the AIG Women's British Open and the Maybank Championship, Yamashita is managing her schedule more strategically this season.

Her goal remains clear: to keep improving and aim for victories.

Rookie Mimi Rhodes, playing on a sponsor invite, matched Yamashita’s 68, joined by Solheim Cup hopeful Lindy Duncan, Haeran Ryu, and Linn Grant.

Defending champion Lydia Ko started with a 70, while World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul, fresh from her win in Thailand, carded a 73. Charley Hull, ranked third globally, posted a 72.

With nine of the top 10 players in the world competing, only Yamashita managed to break into the top 10 after the first round. The stage is set for an exciting tournament as these elite golfers vie for the title in Singapore.
