Wizards Veteran Could Be Caught In A Trade Race Fans Should Watch

With Steph Curry's championship window narrowing, the Warriors might make a bold move to acquire a seasoned NBA champion, potentially reshaping their future.

The Golden State Warriors are looking at a roster that already feels tight, and the injury picture hasn’t helped. Jimmy Butler is sidelined, Kristaps Porziņģis is now dealing with sudden health issues, and what once looked like a promising offseason has turned into a more urgent search for help.

That’s why one name keeps coming up: Anthony Davis.

Golden State spent part of the summer chasing big swings, including LeBron James and Davis. As ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported, “The Golden State Warriors are planning a pursuit of LeBron James in free agency and Anthony Davis via trade this week, league sources told ESPN's Shams Charania, opening up the flexibility for such a possibility after Draymond Green declined his $27.6 million player option Monday morning,”

The LeBron path didn’t happen, and the Davis chase never came together either. But according to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins, Davis’ agent Rich Paul could still be working the market as the season moves along.

“But Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, is one of the game’s most powerful player representatives, and he has proven skilled at securing the deals his high-profile clients want, in the cities where they want to be. There’s little doubt that Paul already has gamed out other teams’ interest in Davis and will continue to do so as February’s trade deadline approaches,” Robbins wrote.

CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn sees Golden State as the most obvious destination if Davis becomes available. “The Wizards reportedly plan to wait until the middle of the season to reopen extension negotiations, but if Davis plays well and stays healthy, there will be a market to flip him by February. Golden State is the obvious one, especially with Kristaps Porziņģis already dealing with a medical issue,” Quinn wrote.

A deal would not come cheap. The Warriors would have to send out a serious package to get Davis, but that kind of move could fit their timeline if they want to keep some flexibility for next offseason. It would also give Curry another high-level running mate.

And on the floor, the fit is hard to ignore. Pairing Davis with Draymond Green would give Golden State a nasty defensive backbone, one that could make life miserable for opposing offenses. It still feels like a long shot, but with Curry’s championship window narrowing, the Warriors could keep swinging for something big.

Kevon Looneys Latest NBA Chance Already Looks Shaky

Kevon Looneys latest stop in the NBA has him back in familiar territory, trying to carve out a role as a dependable reserve big. The longtime interior grinder signed a one-year veteran minimum deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he is slated to back up Walker Kessler and Sandro Mamukelashvili, giving the club a veteran presence behind a pair of younger frontcourt options.

Looney arrived with the reputation that has followed him for years: steady rebounding, solid defense and a willingness to do the unglamorous work that keeps lineups afloat. Still, there is already some uncertainty around how secure the arrangement will be, especially after he played just 21 games last season with the New Orleans Pelicans and then saw his team option declined for 2026-27. Around the league, the sense is that Los Angeles could explore upgrades at backup center during the season, which leaves Looney with plenty to prove early. [Read more 🡒]

Warriors Have A Bigger Opening Night Concern Than Lendeborgs Defense

Yaxel Lendeborg has given the Warriors something to think about on offense this preseason, which is no small thing for a team still trying to sort out its early-season identity. Golden State has looked shaky on that end of the floor, ranking 20th offensively in exhibition play and coughing the ball up more than it did last season, so any young player who can help steady possessions and create points is going to get a longer look.

The problem is that Lendeborgs defense has not matched the rest of his game. His lateral quickness and rim protection have stood out as concerns, and those flaws can be hard to hide for a team that already knows it needs to tighten up. The Warriors are banking on veterans Draymond Green and Al Horford to lift that side of the ball, but Lendeborgs place in the rotation still comes down to whether his offense can keep outweighing the questions on the other end. Warriors Have A New Reason To Watch Trey Murphy III Closely

Trey Murphy IIIs preseason has given the Warriors another name to monitor as Golden State keeps an eye on possible mid-season upgrades. The Pelicans forward was benched in one exhibition game as part of head coach Jamahl Mosleys plan to let starters get used to coming off the bench, a small wrinkle that still put Murphy in a different role than usual and left evaluators with another look at how he handles changing responsibilities.

For the Warriors, Murphys recent showing only adds to the appeal. Golden State has the kind of assets that could help make a trade happen if it decides to push in that direction, and Murphys profile has naturally come up in that conversation. No deal is in place, but if the Warriors are going to keep scanning the market during the season, Murphy looks like a player worth watching closely. [Read more 🡒]
