Warriors May Have Found The Frontcourt Answer They Needed

Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob's confidence in rookie sensation Yaxel Lendeborg is being rewarded as the forward exceeds expectations and fills crucial gaps for the team.

Joe Lacob is liking what he’s seeing from Yaxel Lendeborg, and the Warriors owner didn’t hold back about how strongly he felt about the rookie from the start.

Speaking Monday on 95.7 The Game, Lacob said the organization believed it had landed the right player when it took Lendeborg, and he was blunt about the result so far: "The draft is hard. ... Some teams never get it right, and we got this one right," Lacob told 95.7 The Game on Monday. "I was 100% sold that this was the guy we wanted in the draft."

Lacob also acknowledged that his track record in previous drafts has included misses, saying he deserves criticism for those decisions. Golden State’s use of lottery picks on James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga stood out as the examples, with neither player working out for the Warriors and both now playing elsewhere this season.

Even with Lacob’s confidence in Lendeborg, there was still no certainty the forward would be there when Golden State picked at No. 11. Lacob said he felt the Warriors had a real shot because NBA decision-makers often get drawn to upside, especially with younger prospects.

"NBA GMs just love their 18- and 19-year-olds," Lacob said. "We’ve all been guilty. ...

There’s great upside with some of these guys. But this guy seemed like a champion, ready to play.

"The amazing thing is: Everything we thought he could be, he’s come in and kind of exceeded that. ... He’s surprised (head coach) Steve (Kerr) for sure. He doesn’t have any weaknesses."

Lendeborg, who is 24, has opened his NBA career with a strong stretch, averaging 21.5 points, seven rebounds, and 3.9 assists across his first eight games. The 6-foot-9 forward has also given Golden State important frontcourt help with Jimmy Butler sidelined and Kristaps Porzingis reportedly pondering retirement.

Bucks Pulled Into A Frontcourt Rumor That Could Change Their Plans

The Warriors search for frontcourt help has reportedly reached Milwaukee, where trade chatter has linked Golden State to a possible deal aimed at stabilizing the center spot. The framework being discussed would send Kristaps Porzingis, Gui Santos and a future first-round pick to the Bucks in exchange for Kelel Ware and Caris LeVert, a move that would give Golden State a different mix of size and perimeter help while also testing how much value the team places on reshaping its front line now.

For Milwaukee, the rumor adds another layer to a frontcourt picture that could shift quickly if talks ever gain traction. The financial side of the proposal is part of what makes it worth watching, since the numbers would have to work for both sides before anything becomes real, and there is still no confirmation that the teams are anywhere close to a deal. Steve Kerr Adds Another Twist Before Warriors Face Klay And Wiggins

Steve Kerr had a little bit of everything to discuss after practice, from the real-world noise of the midterm election results to the more immediate business of getting the Warriors ready for Miami. He even took a lighthearted swipe at the political chatter around $5,000 checks before turning back to basketball, where Golden State is still sorting through its health and rotation details.

Gui Santos sat out with a sore left knee, while Brandon Williams went through a full practice and is expected to be available. The bigger spotlight, though, is on the matchup with the Heat, which brings Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins back into the picture from the other side, adding another layer to a game that already has plenty of familiar faces and emotional baggage attached to it. Warriors Could Force Draymond Green Into An Uncomfortable Next Step

Draymond Greens future has become one of the more notable subplots around Golden State, with his expiring contract putting him squarely in the conversation as a possible trade candidate. It is the kind of situation the Warriors rarely face with one of their defining veterans, especially with Green still central to the identity of the team and still positioned to hit free agency next year.

The range of outcomes is wide enough to keep the story unsettled for now, from a mid-season trade to a buyout or even an early retirement scenario, though no official decision has been made. What makes it especially tricky for the Warriors is that a breakup would not necessarily feel final, since Green could still be in position to return to Golden State in the future. [Read more 🡒]
