Warriors Just Got A Better Look At A Center Worth Watching

As Nic Claxton's return approaches, the Warriors prepare to scrutinize his potential as a trade asset amid the Bulls' early-season struggles.

Nic Claxton is on the verge of getting back on the floor for the Chicago Bulls, and that timing may hand the Golden State Warriors a clean look at a possible trade target before February’s mid-season deadline.

The 27-year-old center has yet to play a game for Chicago after being acquired from the Brooklyn Nets in the offseason, but he has now been upgraded to questionable for Wednesday’s matchup with the reigning champion New York Knicks. Claxton has missed the Bulls’ first seven games after suffering a hamstring injury in training camp.

His return would matter for a Bulls team that has stumbled out of the gate at 1-6, though it also leaves Tiago Splitter with a rotation question to answer. How he splits the minutes between Claxton and current starting center Jalen Smith is still to be seen.

For the Warriors, though, the bigger issue is fit. Claxton belongs on their radar as a starting-calibre center on roughly the same salary as Kristaps Porzingis, and Chicago’s upcoming stretch gives Golden State a chance to evaluate him in real time.

The appeal is obvious from the numbers. Claxton put up 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists last season with the Nets, and that passing growth makes him a more interesting option in a Steve Kerr offense. He has also averaged 1.6 blocks over his career and received Defensive Player of the Year votes in 2023.

There is no indication yet that Chicago is shopping him. The Bulls just brought him in less than six months ago, and he has not even played a game for them.

Still, after a 1-6 start, it is fair to wonder where this season is headed. Like with veteran guard Norman Powell, the front office could decide to move Claxton if the return is strong enough.

Golden State has a straightforward path to make a deal happen. A package built around Kristaps Porzingis, Gui Santos and additional draft assets could be enough to get Chicago’s attention. It would also clear salary for the 2027-28 season, while giving the Bulls more projected cap space for free agency next year.

For the Warriors, the need is clear. Claxton fills a major hole, and now they get the chance to watch the 6'11" big man return at exactly the right moment.

Klay Thompson Just Gave Warriors Fans A First They Never Saw

Klay Thompson keeps finding new ways to add to a career that already had a long list of big moments, and this one came in a uniform Warriors fans never expected to see him wear. Playing for the Miami Heat, Thompson delivered his first career game-winning three-pointer in the final five seconds, lifting Miami to a 117-116 win over the Los Angeles Clippers and adding another late-game chapter to a rsum that was already packed with clutch shots and playoff memories from Golden State.

For Warriors fans, the odd part is how long they watched Thompson thrive in the biggest moments without ever getting this exact finish. He scored 30 points in the game and helped carry the Heat alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, but the lasting image was the shot at the buzzer-window, the kind of moment that somehow had never happened before for one of the leagues most familiar sharpshooters. Warriors Rumor Could Reshape Steph Currys Final Title Chase

The Warriors are already being linked to one of the biggest names in the league, and the idea says plenty about how they view the next phase of Stephen Currys run. With injuries again testing the roster and the front office looking for ways to keep the team in the title mix, Golden State is reportedly keeping an eye on Nikola Jokic as a possible target next summer.

It is the kind of speculation that instantly changes the conversation around Currys final championship chase, because a player of Jokics caliber would reshape the ceiling of the roster in a major way. The uncertainty around Jokics long-term future in Denver, including delayed extension talks and the possibility of free agency, is what makes the rumor worth watching, even if the path to getting him is anything but simple. Warriors Still Have One Big Center Question As Graham Ike Waits

The Warriors are still sorting through their center options, and the picture remains unsettled even as the season moves along. Draymond Green, Al Horford, Charles Bassey and Graham Ike all sit in the mix, giving Golden State a few different looks but no clear long-term answer in the middle. Bassey helped himself with a promising recent showing, which at least gave the staff something tangible to weigh as it keeps evaluating the rotation.

Ike, meanwhile, remains the name to watch because he has not had enough floor time to really establish whether he can be part of the solution. The Warriors would still like to reshape the position before the trade deadline, with the goal of moving Kristaps Porzingis contract and turning that into a more dependable center option. For now, though, the search continues, and the uncertainty at the spot is still one of the more important roster issues hanging over the team. [Read more 🡒]
