Warriors Await Curry's Return Amid Playoff Push
SAN FRANCISCO - The Golden State Warriors are navigating a challenging stretch without their star guard, Steph Curry, who will miss his 24th consecutive game due to knee soreness and bone bruising. The team announced Curry's progress is promising, but he won't be back in action until after a re-evaluation next week. The next step in his recovery includes a live 5-on-5 scrimmage, which could be a key milestone in his return-to-play process.
Curry will also sit out Sunday’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets. Following that, the Warriors have a five-game homestand, a crucial period as they cling to the 10th seed in the Western Conference with a 35-38 record.
During a recent road trip, Curry's recovery saw a boost with a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection to alleviate knee swelling. In Boston, he was seen participating in pregame shooting drills, marking his first on-court activity since the injury. Despite these positive signs, the team has opted for a cautious approach, scaling back his involvement in full-contact scrimmages.
Back in the Bay Area, Curry has been working individually with team doctor Rick Celebrini. Coach Steve Kerr and teammate Draymond Green have emphasized the importance of ensuring Curry is fully ready before returning. Green noted the priority is Curry’s health, stating, “If there’s any doubt, he shouldn’t be out there.”
Before his injury, Curry was on track for another stellar season, averaging 27.2 points per game and posting four 40-point performances in 39 starts.
Meanwhile, Curry’s brother, Seth, has been sidelined with a left adductor strain, missing the last eight games. He is now considered day-to-day after participating in recent scrimmages.
In other team news, the Warriors’ center depth remains a concern with Al Horford also out. Horford is set for a re-evaluation next week as he works back from a calf injury.
The veteran had been in fine form, scoring double figures in five of his last seven games before the setback. To bolster their roster, the Warriors have signed Omer Yurtseven to two 10-day contracts, aiming to fill the void in the paint.
As the Warriors battle for playoff positioning, the return of Curry and Horford could be pivotal. Fans and teammates alike are hopeful for their swift recovery, knowing that their presence on the court could make all the difference in a tightly contested playoff race.
