The Golden State Warriors' challenging season took another tough hit with Moses Moody's unfortunate knee injury during their 137-131 overtime victory against the Dallas Mavericks. Moody, who had just returned from a 10-game absence due to a wrist sprain, suffered a non-contact injury on a breakaway dunk attempt after stealing the ball from Mavs rookie Cooper Flagg. The scene was unsettling as Moody reacted mid-air and crashed hard onto the court.
Teammates and coaches gathered around as Moody was stretchered off with his left knee in an orange covering. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, visibly concerned, shared that while the extent of the injury remains unknown, it didn't look promising.
"Just saw his leg buckle," Kerr said. "We’re hoping for the best-case scenario."
After undergoing X-rays, Moody was seen using crutches with a brace on his knee, and he is set to have an MRI soon to determine the severity. The atmosphere in the Warriors' locker room was somber, with Brandin Podziemski comparing it to the mood when Jimmy Butler suffered his ACL injury earlier in the season. "You just hate to see it," Podziemski remarked.
This injury adds to the Warriors' string of bad luck, with key players like Stephen Curry out due to patellofemoral pain syndrome and others dealing with various ailments. Despite the setbacks, Moody was having a solid season, averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists, with a notable uptick in February before his wrist injury.
Moody's work ethic and character have made him a respected figure in the locker room. Coach Kerr praised Moody's defensive impact and shooting performance, emphasizing the disappointment of losing such a dedicated player.
"Mo is such a great human being," Kerr noted. "To finally have him back … and then for that to happen."
The Warriors will be anxiously awaiting further updates on Moody's condition, hoping for a positive outcome in what has been a trying season.
