LeBron James’ free agency remains unresolved, but one rumored piece of the puzzle appears to be off the table.
ESPN’s Shams Charania said Thursday on The Pat McAfee Show that James is not sitting around waiting on an Anthony Davis move before making his decision.
“They’re not waiting for Anthony Davis to get traded anywhere. Not waiting for anyone else to move around anywhere."
That matters because Davis had been tied to speculation around the Warriors once Golden State surfaced as a possible landing spot for James. The idea floating around was that LeBron wanted the Warriors to trade for Davis from the Washington Wizards so the two could reunite in the Bay Area.
Salary-wise, that scenario would have required Jimmy Butler to be sent to the Wizards in return. Golden State, though, made it clear it had no intention of moving Butler.
From the start, the whole thing felt shaky, and Charania’s update goes a long way toward shutting it down. It also points to Davis staying put.
The report also takes away another possible reason for the delay in James’ free agency. Charania said James is not waiting on any trade at all, including the recently rumored Jalen Green situation with the Phoenix Suns as part of one of LeBron’s possible destinations.
For now, the simple truth is that nobody really knows what James is going to do next.
He remains a free agent and will sign eventually. Until then, everyone else is left waiting on King James to make his move.
