The Golden State Warriors are in a tough stretch right now, and tensions around the organization are starting to show - even in the inbox.
After a leaked email exchange between team owner Joe Lacob and a frustrated fan made its way to Reddit, head coach Steve Kerr addressed the situation with calm clarity. And if you're looking for drama between Kerr and Lacob, you're not going to find it.
“We’re all frustrated,” Kerr told reporters on Tuesday. “Joe is frustrated.
I’m frustrated. Steph, Draymond - everybody’s frustrated.”
That’s the reality when you’re a team with championship expectations sitting in eighth place in the West and coming off a loss to the Trail Blazers, despite a vintage performance from Stephen Curry.
The email in question came from a fan named Justin Dutari, who reached out to Lacob after Sunday’s loss to Portland. Dutari criticized the team’s roster construction - specifically the lack of size and how the team has (or hasn’t) utilized Jimmy Butler.
Lacob, to his credit, responded just two minutes later with a blunt but telling message: *"You can't be as frustrated as me. I am working on it."
The exchange was short, direct, and, thanks to the internet, now very public. But for Kerr, it’s not something that’s going to shake the foundation in Golden State.
“Not a big deal,” he said. “Not concerned about anything like that.”
Kerr also pushed back on the idea that the email leak signals any deeper cracks in the Warriors’ leadership. “Joe supports me 100 percent.
I support him,” Kerr said. “We have a great connection.
We’ve had so much continuity here. Our stable environment in our organization is one of our strengths.”
And he’s not wrong. For all the noise around the Warriors this season - the ups and downs, the roster questions, the Draymond Green suspensions - this is still one of the most stable franchises in the NBA.
That doesn’t mean they’re immune to pressure, especially when the wins aren’t coming as expected. But it does mean they’re equipped to handle it.
Still, the frustration is real. The Warriors have dropped four of their last six, and while Curry is continuing to put up MVP-level numbers - averaging 29.6 points per game and shooting over 41% from three - his brilliance hasn’t been enough to carry this team over the hump on a consistent basis. His 48-point outburst against Portland was a reminder of what he can still do, but also a reflection of how much weight he’s carrying right now.
This stretch of the season is testing the Warriors - not just their roster, but their culture, their chemistry, and their ability to weather adversity. The email leak?
That’s just a blip. The real story is whether this group can find the answers on the court before the Western Conference standings start to slip out of reach.
