Stephen Curry Sidelined: Steve Kerr Rallies to Boost Draymond Green

With Curry sidelined, Coach Steve Kerr explores new strategies to support Draymond Green and adapt the Warriors lineup for success.

SAN FRANCISCO - After a tough outing from Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors are looking to make adjustments as they navigate Stephen Curry's absence due to a knee injury. Coach Steve Kerr emphasized the need to support Green, who went 0-for-7 and posted a minus-28 in just over 18 minutes during the 121-110 loss to the Boston Celtics.

Green's struggles this season have been compounded by injuries within the team, including a season-ending ACL injury for Jimmy Butler and Curry's ongoing knee issue. Kerr highlighted the challenge of playing without Curry, noting the duo's longstanding synergy.

"The game shifts without Steph," Kerr explained. "Their two-man game has been our cornerstone for years.

Without Steph, defenses play us differently, and it impacts Draymond significantly."

To help Green, Kerr is focusing on better spacing and exploring different offensive actions. "When Draymond runs pick-and-roll with Steph, it's our strongest play," Kerr said.

"Without Steph, we lose that edge, so we need to improve our spacing. That's where our coaching staff needs to step up, ensuring we adapt our playstyle."

Kerr also addressed lineup adjustments, especially with the addition of Kristaps Porziņģis. While considering the chemistry between Porziņģis and Al Horford from their Celtics days, Kerr remains committed to starting Green.

"I haven't thought about benching Draymond," Kerr stated. "We're looking for continuity, and with Kristaps' minutes limited, we'll keep our starting lineup consistent."

Despite Green's recent struggles, Kerr praised his leadership and attitude. "Draymond's approach was fantastic, even on a tough night," Kerr noted.

"He kept his spirits high, supporting teammates from the bench. How a player handles the latter stages of their career is crucial, and Draymond's handling it with dignity, especially when our weaknesses are more exposed without Steph."

As the Warriors strategize to involve Green more effectively, there's optimism with Porziņģis feeling good post-game and ready for more minutes against the Denver Nuggets. Kerr is working closely with the training staff to manage Porziņģis' return from past health issues.

Ultimately, Kerr emphasized a collaborative approach with Green, reflecting the ongoing team effort to adapt and thrive in Curry's absence.
