Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors' iconic sharpshooter, isn't hanging up his sneakers just yet. However, he recently shed light on what will guide his decision when the time does come. In a candid conversation on The Athletic Show with his father, Dell Curry, Steph revealed that his body will be the ultimate decider.
Reflecting on his current physical state, Curry noted, “Your body is the first point of information.” Despite a recent bout with runner’s knee, he remains deeply connected to the joy of the game.
“Being on the court is still my happy place. The competition, the camaraderie, and the chase for greatness - it all still fuels me.
I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.”
At 38, Curry is in his 17th NBA season, and he’s still lighting up the scoreboard, averaging 27.2 points per game. However, injuries have been a hurdle this season, limiting him to just 39 games. His return before season's end is still uncertain.
Curry's respect for his father’s 16-year NBA career is well-known. He shared a favorite on-court moment: when opponents urge him to stop moving so much.
“I had to be the most well-conditioned,” Curry explained. “It’s one of my favorite compliments when someone says, ‘Yo, stop moving so much.’”
Dell Curry, after witnessing his son’s four NBA championships and two MVP titles, admires Steph’s relentless conditioning and mental fortitude. While Steph’s future seasons remain a question, Dell’s own career philosophy might resonate with him: “Play as long as you can - then play one more year.”
