Stephen Curry says his knee is in good shape, but the Warriors guard is also making clear that this season will require constant management.
That’s the real twist heading into Golden State’s year. The team is entering a season where it is not expected to make the playoffs, and Curry has been one of the biggest storylines all summer because of contract talks and the knee issue that lingered from last season.
NBC Sports’ Marcus Poole said there is still reason for caution.
“There's at least some lingering concern about the knee. From what I've been told, it can be managed, but it has to be managed and that's a new thing for Steph because people always say he is the most conditioned guy in the League and now he has to manage a knee.
I guess we'll find out, but from what I understand, he and his trainers have devised ways to kind of work around that and sort of support that whole possibility of the knee not being as great as he wants it to be. So, I'm curious to see how it turns out, but Steph seemed pretty confident that he'll be able to go out there and put out 70+ games,” Poole said.
At media day, Curry sounded upbeat about where things stand.
“Knee's feeling great. Ready to go.
No issues. I feel a lot stronger and understanding of what I'm dealing with,” Curry said.
Still, his latest comments suggest the plan goes beyond simply feeling good right now. Curry described a season built around recovery days, practice work, and minute management, all aimed at keeping the issue from becoming a bigger problem.
“It will hopefully transition into a steady, kind of, the ebbs and flows of the season, where I know what I'm doing on recovery days, I know what I'm doing in practice to stay sharp, and then games, I know how many minutes I'm going to play and can kind of go and just be free. So, it's kind of a constant throughline of beginning of the offseason to through this year where I hopefully stay ahead of it,” Curry stated.
That leaves Golden State with a clear reality: Curry may be healthy now, but keeping him that way is going to be part of the job all season long. The guard has a plan in place, and the key will be sticking to it night after night.
If he stays on top of it, he should be able to keep moving forward. If not, the issue could resurface later.
For now, Curry believes he’s in a good spot, even as the need to “stay ahead” of the knee adds a new layer to his season.

Warriors May Benefit From The Anthony Davis Situation Getting Messier
The Anthony Davis trade chatter has taken another turn, and it could matter for Golden State as much as anyone. Washington is now reportedly exploring a path that would send Davis to Detroit for restricted free agent Jalen Duren, a framework that speaks to how aggressively the Wizards are trying to move on and how complicated the market has become around the veteran big man.
For the Warriors, the bigger issue is leverage. They were already among the teams linked to Davis as they continue to look for help at center, and the more public Washington makes its willingness to deal him, the harder it may be to command the kind of return that once seemed possible. Golden State still fits the conversation if Davis becomes available in season, but the path to a deal may be getting messier by the day. [Read more 🡒]
Warriors Make Draymond Decision That Puts Pressure On This Season
Steve Kerr has made it clear that Draymond Green will stay in the starting five alongside Stephen Curry, a decision that keeps one of Golden States most familiar pairings intact as the team tries to steady its frontcourt. Even with outside chatter about a possible move to the bench, the Warriors are leaning on the chemistry Green and Curry have built over the years, a choice that says plenty about how much the organization still values that connection.
The move also adds another layer of pressure to what is shaping up as a pivotal season for Golden State, because the lineup picture is not entirely settled and health concerns for Kristaps Porzingis could force more shuffling than the Warriors would like. Greens place in the opening group should help define the teams identity early, but it also keeps the spotlight on how the roster performs if the start is uneven, especially with trade speculation already hanging around the situation. Steve Kerr Already Locked In Golden States Core Camp Decision
Draymond Greens summer took a familiar turn for Golden State, with the veteran forward opting out to help create cap space before eventually returning on the same one-year, $27.7 million deal. Stephen Curry, meanwhile, remains the franchise centerpiece after signing a two-year, $116 million extension that includes a player option on the final season, keeping the Warriors core structure intact as training camp approaches.
Steve Kerr has already made one lineup choice clear for the new season, and it speaks to how the Warriors want to open this next chapter. Green and Curry will be on the floor together when the season begins, preserving the veteran backbone that has defined Golden State for years while leaving the bigger questions about how the rotation evolves around them for later.
