Pelicans Stun Raptors as Trey Murphy III and Murray Shine

Pelicans soar past last seasons win total with a stellar performance, as Dejounte Murray and the Lakers' defense highlight a dynamic NBA landscape.

Pelicans' Winning Streak Continues

The New Orleans Pelicans are turning heads with their recent performances. They secured a 122-111 victory over the Raptors on Wednesday, with Trey Murphy III leading the charge with 28 points and Dejounte Murray adding 27. This win marks their 22nd of the season, surpassing last year's total, and they've triumphed in seven of their last ten games.

Dejounte Murray, back in action after an Achilles injury, has been a consistent force, scoring in double figures in all seven games since his return and averaging 17.6 points. "We’re trying to build winning habits every day," Murray said, emphasizing the team's playoff mindset.

Coach James Borrego praised Murray's impact, noting his "fire and competitiveness" as key elements rallying the team.

Lakers' Defensive Improvements

The Lakers are quietly making strides on defense, holding the New York Knicks to 97 points and the Timberwolves to 106 in consecutive games. While not perfect, these performances are a step in the right direction.

Coach JJ Redick acknowledged the progress, stating, "We’re not gonna be the No. 1 defense in the league, but to be above average… that’s really encouraging." He pointed out that rim protection remains a challenge, emphasizing that it's a team-wide responsibility.

Warriors Facing Adversity

The Warriors are navigating a rough patch, with Jimmy Butler out for the season due to a torn ACL and Stephen Curry sidelined with a knee injury. This has led to three consecutive losses and five defeats in their last six games.

Coach Steve Kerr is focused on maintaining team morale. "I’m just trying to fire the guys up," Kerr shared.

"Without Steph, without Jimmy, I think I have to take on more responsibility keeping the guys’ spirits up." Keeping the team motivated is proving to be one of their biggest challenges right now.
