Kuminga's New Chapter: A Night of Transition and Triumph
In Atlanta, Jonathan Kuminga faced his former team, the Warriors, for the first time since his trade to the Hawks. It was a night filled with mixed emotions and a clear focus on moving forward.
The Warriors, already hampered by injuries to key players like Steph Curry and Kristaps Porziņģis, struggled to keep up. Kuminga, now with the Hawks, had a tough night on the court, scoring just two points on 1-of-9 shooting. Despite his struggles, the Hawks dominated the second half, cruising to a 126-110 victory.
Reflecting on Kuminga’s journey, Warriors coach Steve Kerr shared insights into Kuminga’s time with the team. Drafted as the No. 7 pick in 2021, Kuminga needed more freedom and playing time than the championship-driven Warriors could offer. Kerr noted, "We offered him what we could, but it was never comfortable for either party on the basketball floor."
Kuminga, however, is focused on the present and his future with the Hawks. "I’m not worried about the past," he said.
"I’m very happy where I’m at. We’re doing great, and our goal is to get whatever we want to get."
The Hawks have been on a roll, winning 12 of their last 13 games, and Kuminga is eager to contribute to their success. "The difference is just to come out here and try and fit, and I think that’s gone really well," he explained. "What’s most important right now is how can we stack wins game after game."
After the game, there were plenty of friendly exchanges between Kuminga and his former teammates. He shared a quick moment with Kerr and enjoyed reconnecting with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, with a bit of light-hearted banter on the side.
Kuminga's focus is clear: he's building a new chapter with the Hawks, aiming for success and leaving the past behind.
