Jonathan Kuminga faced off against his former team, the Golden State Warriors, for the first time on Saturday, March 22, with the Atlanta Hawks emerging victorious, 126-110. The Warriors, under Steve Kerr, are struggling, now 6-15 in the 21 games since Stephen Curry was sidelined with a knee injury.
Kuminga, despite the win, had a challenging night. The dynamic forward didn't find the basket until late in the fourth quarter, finishing with just 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal, shooting a tough 1-of-9 from the field over 22 minutes of play.
Reflecting on the game, Kuminga emphasized his commitment to growth and his role with the Hawks. “I’m not worried about the past," he shared.
"I’m very happy where I’m at. We’re doing great, and our goal is to get whatever we want to get.
That comes down to us as a team. I’m onto the next chapter with my teammates, and we’re trying to build something here.”
Since his trade to the Hawks on February 5, Kuminga has played in seven games, averaging an impressive 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. His shooting has been strong, with 51.1% from two-point range and 46.7% from beyond the arc, making Saturday's performance an exception to his usual form.
Both Kuminga and the Warriors will be eager to refocus. For Golden State, the priority is snapping their current losing streak and getting back in the win column as soon as possible.
