Draymond Green’s latest comments have put an early spotlight on Yaxel Lendeborg, and not in the way the Warriors probably wanted.
The rookie has already shown plenty of personality, and that seemed to come out first in a light social media back-and-forth with Green tied to the rivalry between their colleges. Things escalated after Lendeborg made a pitch for LeBron James to join Golden State, saying he understood James doesn’t love rookies but that he isn’t the average rookie and had a chance to play alongside Stephen Curry, “the greatest shooter of all time,” and Green, his good friend.
Green didn’t brush that off. On his podcast, he called the pitch pointless and added, “I think the pitch is pointless.
But it's fine. Training camp is coming soon enough, and you know, gotta rein the rookie in a little bit, you know, teach him a few things.”
When Lendeborg was asked about that response, he sounded uneasy.
"I got a little nervous. I don’t know what he’s talking about, man.
He could be hinting at a lot of different things. Hopefully it’s not the (rookie) hazing.
I hope we keep that at a minimum. I hope it’s just like, ‘Yeah, I got you.
This is what you should and shouldn’t do.’ So I’m a little worried, but hopefully everything goes well," Lendeborg said.
Maybe the whole thing is just a bit of teasing between two personalities who like to jab back and forth. But the tone matters here, and Green’s message landed like more than a harmless joke.
Lendeborg’s LeBron comment came after a reporter asked him about it, and it was hardly some wild outburst. Still, Green’s reaction made it sound as if the rookie had crossed a line.
That’s where the Jordan Poole comparison starts to creep in. Green has had issues before with young players who talk, and that situation went to a dark place. This does not mean the same thing is about to happen with Lendeborg, but it’s easy to see how a 23-year-old could start feeling like he can’t fully be himself or doesn’t belong.
That would be a problem for Golden State. The Warriors need Lendeborg to produce if they want any real shot at being a contender next season, and that kind of goal only works if everyone is pulling in the same direction. There isn’t room for veterans taking aim at younger players over comments they make to the media.
Maybe this all gets smoothed over quickly. Maybe Green is leaning into the drama to help his podcast.
Either way, it’s not a great opening chapter for the Warriors, and fans have seen enough of this kind of tension to know where it can lead. The hope now is simple: it never gets anywhere near as ugly as it did with Green and Poole.

Draymond Just Exposed A Steve Kerr Tension Warriors Fans Feared
Draymond Greens latest comments only added another layer to the uneasy backdrop surrounding his future in Golden State. The veteran forward has already been open about a strained relationship with Stephen A. Smith, and he also described a conversation with Steve Kerr in which the Warriors coach was part of a difficult discussion about Greens off-court controversies and how they land inside the organization.
Green said he told Kerr not to feel obligated to defend him publicly, a revealing detail for a player who has long been central to the Warriors identity and just as often at the center of the noise around it. There was already a tense Kerr-Green episode during the season, and with Greens free agency hanging over everything, the bigger question for Warriors fans is no longer just how the relationship looks now, but whether it will still be intact when the next chapter begins. Steph And Ayesha Were Left Stunned By A Bizarre ESPYs Moment
Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry had one of the more memorable nights at the 2026 ESPYs, where the couple was recognized with the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award for their work through the Eat. Learn. Play Foundation. The honor fit the Currys long-running effort to support children and families in Oakland, and Stephen Curry used his acceptance speech to underline how much can happen when a community shows up for its kids.
The evening took a strange turn when mentalist Oz Pearlman worked the room with a trick that left the Currys and the crowd visibly surprised. Stephen Curry could only laugh in disbelief afterward, while Ayesha Curry came away clearly unsettled by the moment, turning a feel-good award presentation into one of the nights oddest scenes. Warriors Just Got A Brutal Anthony Davis Signal Amid LeBron Chase
The Anthony Davis chatter around Golden State has taken on a different tone lately, and not in a way that helps the Warriors hopes. Washingtons recent decision to lock up Trae Young on a long-term extension only sharpened the sense that the Wizards are willing to keep their core pieces intact, even as Davis has continued to surface in trade talk tied to Golden States broader star chase.
For the Warriors, the problem is that the Davis pursuit has not moved much beyond rumor, with no real traction building on a deal. Davis is approaching the point where extension talks can begin, and Washingtons next move could tell the league a lot about whether it intends to listen on trade offers or simply hold firm and sort out his future another way.
