DeMarcus Cousins didn’t mince words when he took aim at the Warriors’ roster construction around Stephen Curry.
With Golden State set to face the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, the team is still hunting its first win after opening 0-3, the first time the franchise has started a regular season that badly in the Stephen Curry era. While Curry continues to carry the offense at an elite level, Cousins used his appearance on “Run it Back” to blast general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. for the way he’s assembled the roster.
Cousins said Dunleavy has done a “s*** job” building around Curry and even said he was stunned that Dunleavy “still has a job.”
“And it's unfortunate because I think Steph has so much more greatness to give, even at this point in his career,” Cousins said. “I don't feel like the front office is believing in Steph the way everybody in the world believes in Steph.
And I think the evidence is pretty apparent. I'll go on the record and say I think Dunleavy has done a s*** job as far as putting a roster around Steph Curry.

Why this guy still has a job? I'll never know.
Obviously, I don't have that privilege in life.”
Cousins then turned his criticism toward the way Golden State has played stylistically, saying the team is leaning on “nostalgia” and using a system he считает “outdated.” He also questioned why the Warriors still haven’t paired Curry with a star big man.
“I think he's done a horrible job as far as putting a good group around him,” Cousins continued. “They're still running the same outdated system as far as going extremely small.
I think the other night Steve Kerr put in a lineup, and the tallest guy on the floor was [six-foot-six-inches]. It doesn't work anymore.
The system is outdated…So, it sucks to see Steph kind of go out on this limb. I feel like he has a lot more greatness to give.”
For now, the attention stays on whether Curry and the Warriors can steady things this season.

Warriors Face An Uncomfortable Stephen Curry Reality Already
Stephen Currys new two-year, $116 million extension was meant to keep the Warriors title window open, but early in the season it has already put the team back in a familiar place: managing his workload before the schedule starts to take a bigger toll. The reality is straightforward enough for Golden State. Curry is still the engine of everything it does, but at this stage of his career the team cannot treat every night like a normal one.
Resting Curry in games is a reminder that the Warriors are trying to balance two competing truths at once. They need him on the floor as much as possible, yet they also have to protect him from the wear that comes with age and an injury history that has shaped so much of his career. For a roster that has long depended on his presence, that tension could become one of the defining issues of the season. [Read more 🡒]
Nuggets Fans Just Got Pulled Into Another Nikola Jokic Trade Debate
The Warriors current reality is not exactly built for splashy dreams. Injuries have thinned the roster, salary-cap constraints have boxed the front office in, and Steve Kerr has already made it clear the team is not where it needs to be. With Golden State also not expected to make the playoffs, the conversation around the franchise has shifted from short-term fixes to bigger-picture questions about how far it should go to keep an aging Stephen Curry in the title mix.
Into that uncertainty comes the kind of idea that can only survive in rumor season: a trade chase for Nikola Jokic if the circumstances ever lined up. Bleacher Reports Dan Favale floated the possibility, which is enough to send another round of Nuggets fan arguments into overdrive. For the Warriors, it speaks to how aggressively they might have to think if they decide future assets are worth moving, even if the path from speculation to reality remains as wide as ever. Klay Thompsons Miami Start Is Creating An Early Heat Debate
Klay Thompsons early run in Miami has been bumpy enough to put a familiar lineup question right in the middle of the Heats first weeks. The veteran guard has not found much rhythm as a scorer, shooting well below his usual standard in preseason and the opening stretch of the regular season, and the surrounding issues have only made the conversation louder.
The Heats starting group has also struggled to get stops, sitting near the bottom of the league defensively, and Thompsons defensive rating has been one of the rougher marks on the roster. With the team looking for a cleaner two-way fit, Erik Spoelstra is already facing the kind of early rotation debate that can follow a shaky start. [Read more 🡒]
