For nearly two decades, Carmelo Anthony, a Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer, shared the court with some of the greatest players in NBA history. Yet, when it comes to Steph Curry, Anthony sees something uniquely transformative.
Speaking at NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, Anthony touched on various topics, including his popular podcast "7PM in Brooklyn." When asked about his dream podcast guest, he paused before delivering a thoughtful response. But when Curry's name came up, Anthony's admiration was immediate.
"Steph changed the game," Anthony said. "His approach to preparation and gameplay is revolutionary.
He extended the 3-point range to almost half-court, forcing teams to rethink their defense strategies. He's a true game-changer, and his impact will be felt for a long time."
Curry, a four-time NBA champion, continues to dazzle in his 17th season with Golden State. Approaching 38, he's still putting up impressive numbers-27.2 points per game on 46.8% shooting, including 39.1% from beyond the arc, along with 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 31.3 minutes per game.
However, the Warriors face challenges. With a 29-26 record at the All-Star break and Jimmy Butler sidelined with an ACL tear, their path to maximizing Curry's remaining years for deep playoff runs has become steeper.
Despite this, Anthony remains optimistic about the Warriors' prospects. "They'll compete and fight until the wheels fall off," he said.
"With Steph being Steph and Draymond Green still in the mix, they have a fighting chance. Their championship DNA keeps them competitive."
Anthony knows about competition, having made 13 playoff appearances in his 19-year career. A 10-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA selection, he's considered one of the league's greatest scorers. While an NBA championship eluded him, he clinched an NCAA title at Syracuse in 2003 and is a three-time Olympic gold medalist.
Reflecting on his career, Anthony expressed no regrets. "I went through what I went through and persevered. I don't regret anything," he said.
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Baltimore, Anthony's New York roots run deep, especially after his time with the Knicks. His "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast embodies this connection, aiming to spread positivity.
"Just be you," Anthony advises. "In this space, authenticity is key. We focus on positivity and giving people their flowers, avoiding trash talk."
As for his dream podcast guest? "Bernie Mac," Anthony revealed. "He fits our aesthetic and conversation style perfectly."
The "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast recently hosted a special live edition during All-Star Weekend, bringing together basketball fans and stars like Curry, Chris Paul, and more, courtesy of Chase Freedom's Cashback Courts.
Reflecting on the event, Anthony appreciated the opportunity to connect with fans. "Chase allowed us to bring our community to LA, creating a great partnership," he said.
From coast to coast, Anthony has made an indelible mark both on and off the court, continuing to inspire with a basketball and a microphone in hand.
