Caitlin Clark Credits Lakers Star for Inspiring Her Game Development

As she gears up for a new season, Caitlin Clark reveals the NBA star shes studying to elevate her game.

Caitlin Clark may have spent much of 2025 sidelined due to injury, but make no mistake-she hasn’t faded from the spotlight. The Indiana Fever star, who took the WNBA by storm with her electric debut in 2024, is already making moves off the court as she gears up for a highly anticipated return this season.

One of those moves? A new collaboration with NBC that’s putting Clark in front of the camera in a different way.

She recently joined NBC’s panel for the marquee matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, bringing her sharp basketball mind to the national stage. And during the broadcast, she didn’t hold back when asked which NBA players have caught her eye.

Her answer? Luka Dončić.

“Man, Luka, I mean Luka, is amazing,” Clark said. “He’s incredible.

The way he not only scores the ball but also the way he passes… the thing about him is that he’s not the fastest, he’s not the most athletic, but he can get his defender to move where he wants him to go. He does a really good job of either keeping the defender behind him or to the side.

I mean, it’s something I can certainly learn from.”

That’s high praise coming from one of the sharpest young basketball minds in the game. And Clark’s admiration for Dončić isn’t just about the highlight plays-it's about the nuance.

She’s keyed in on the subtleties that make Luka so dangerous: the pace control, the spatial manipulation, the ability to dictate terms without relying on raw athleticism. It’s the kind of cerebral approach that mirrors how Clark herself plays-reading the floor, anticipating movements, and staying one step ahead.

Dončić, now suiting up for the Lakers, continues to put up monster numbers. Even in a 112-100 loss to the Knicks, he poured in 30 points over 37 minutes, reminding everyone why he’s one of the most unguardable players in the league. His blend of skill and savvy is something Clark clearly respects-and wants to channel in her own game.

But it wasn’t all admiration and analysis. Clark also found time to poke a little fun at another NBA superstar: Stephen Curry.

Back in December, Curry stunned fans by casually sinking a full-court shot during warmups before a game against the Timberwolves. The video of the nearly 100-foot bomb went viral almost instantly.

And Clark, like the rest of the internet, was floored. “This has to be AI,” she joked on social media, leaning into the absurdity of the moment.

Of course, Clark and Curry have a well-documented friendship, and the playful jab was all in good fun-a sign of mutual respect and the kind of camaraderie that defines the modern basketball landscape. It’s not every day you see two generational shooters trading laughs over trick shots, but with Clark and Curry, it feels natural.

As Clark prepares for her WNBA comeback, it’s clear she’s not just watching the game-she’s studying it. Whether it’s learning from Luka’s footwork and tempo or sharing a laugh at Steph’s long-range wizardry, she’s staying engaged, sharp, and ready to evolve. And if her past performances are any indication, the league should be ready-because Caitlin Clark is coming back with a deeper bag and an even sharper eye.
