Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers may have moved on to a new job with the Philadelphia 76ers, but the part of his old role he misses most has nothing to do with trophies.
In a recent interview with NBA Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter, Myers opened up about his time with the Warriors, including why he left, the hardest call he faced while running the team and the run of success Golden State enjoyed. When asked what he still feels from those years, Myers pointed straight to the people around him.
“I did my job. But the thing I miss and loved most was the relationships.
I don’t talk to these rings I have at my house. I don’t watch old highlights.
I call Draymond Green. I call Steph Curry.
I call (Andre) Iguodala. That’s what I miss.”
That answer says plenty about how Myers sees his time in Golden State. Yes, he’s credited as the catalyst behind the Warriors’ four recent championships. But in his own words, the lasting part of the experience is the bond with players like Curry and Green.
