Georgias Next SEC Test Is Bringing Back Rivalry Tension

Georgia and Auburn rekindle their historic rivalry this Saturday, with Georgia entering as the strong favorite, looking to build on their recent victory over Alabama.

Georgia and Auburn meet again Saturday in Athens, with the Bulldogs and Tigers lining up for the 131st chapter of a rivalry that Georgia leads 66-56-8 all-time.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, and the game will air on ESPN. Fans can also stream it through the WatchESPN app.

Georgia enters the matchup as a heavy favorite at FanDuel, where the Bulldogs are listed at 19.5 points. The over/under sits at 50.5.

Kirby Smart spent part of the buildup talking about what makes this one different. He called it “the South's oldest rivalry” and said, “It's an awesome rivalry.

It's one that was special to me growing up close to Auburn. I actually lived closer to there than any other SEC school.

I have known a lot of coaches there and seems like from the two places I've worked most of my life, that's been a permanent rival - certainly been a very traditional rivalry both places I worked and have so much respect for them.

They have a lot of talent. They got good football players and it's any given Saturday in this conference, as we see every week, will be a extremely physical game.

They're coming off an off week, and we're coming off a really tough physical game.So it'll be really important that the mindset and the approach to the game is right because they wanna make it physical the way they play. They're a really tough physical football team on both sides of the ball.

And Coach Durkin, their defensive coordinator has been one of the best in the conference over all the years he's been in the conference. He's a great defensive football coach.

We got a lot of links - a lot of respect for him. Our guys have to get ready to go play.”

Georgia comes into the Auburn game after beating No. 6 Alabama 20-17 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

That was Kirby Smart’s first win in Tuscaloosa. Dwight Phillips led the Bulldogs’ ground game, and Gunner Stockton finished with just four incompletions as Georgia handled the Tide.

Georgia Tech Showed Promise In Blacksburg But One Problem Ruined It

Georgia Tech had enough second-half fight in Blacksburg to make the trip home feeling like there was something to build on, but the opening stretch left too deep a hole. The Yellow Jackets spotted Virginia Tech a halftime cushion after two early turnovers and an opening-drive touchdown allowed on defense, then spent the rest of the afternoon trying to climb back into a game that had already tilted sharply the other way.

The response after the break was more encouraging, with the defense showing better pressure and the offense finding more rhythm behind QueSean Brown, Ethan Grunkmeyer and Jordan Allen. Even so, the comeback never fully materialized, which leaves Georgia Tech with the familiar mix of progress and frustration: enough signs of improvement to notice, not enough consistency to turn it into a road win.
