Georgia Tech’s calendar now has a prime-time date circled for week nine.
The Yellow Jackets’ matchup with Pittsburgh is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN2, marking a second straight season that these teams will meet under the lights.
For Georgia Tech, the timing lands in the middle of a busy stretch. The Yellow Jackets are 2-4 overall and 1-2 in ACC play, coming off a road loss at Virginia Tech and heading into a homecoming game with Boston College this Saturday. That game takes priority for now, but the Pitt trip is officially locked in.
Pittsburgh enters the matchup with a very different feel than it had a few weeks ago. The Panthers opened 5-0, climbed to No. 25 in the AP poll, and then dropped back-to-back games to North Carolina and Boston College. A major blow came when star quarterback Mason Heintschel suffered a season-ending injury in the win over Virginia Tech, and that absence has loomed over the last two weeks.
Before Georgia Tech gets there, Pitt has another heavyweight task: a road game at No. 1 Miami.
The Panthers also hold the edge in the all-time series, 12-6. Last season in Atlanta, Georgia Tech had one of those games that sticks with you for a while.
The Yellow Jackets were 9-1 and had a chance to clinch a spot in the ACC Championship game, which would have given them a shot at the College Football Playoff. Instead, Pitt stormed out to a 28-0 lead, and Georgia Tech’s comeback bid came up short.
There was a different result the last time Georgia Tech played Pitt on the road. The Yellow Jackets pulled off a 26-21 upset, and it was the first game for Georgia Tech under Brent Key, who remained the interim for the rest of the 2022 season. In hindsight, it looked like an early sign of what was coming over the next three seasons.
Georgia Tech’s win over Duke on Oct. 10th briefly made it feel like the season was turning. The Yellow Jackets knocked off an undefeated team and turned in what looked like their best performance of the year, but they couldn’t carry that into the Virginia Tech game.
Even after the setback, Key pointed to specific areas of progress.
"The guys have to understand that we improved here, here, and here, okay? And we didn't here.
Well, let's find out why we didn't, right? But, I mean, building pressure on the quarterback was much better, right?
The second half, what we did in the second half was better. But like I said, we've got to make some adjustments a little bit earlier going into the game with that play"
Georgia Tech’s next chance to build on those positives comes this Saturday against Boston College, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network.

Georgia Tech Faces Homecoming Pressure After Another Costly Loss
Georgia Techs latest setback in Blacksburg left the Yellow Jackets in a familiar spot, trying to piece together momentum after falling behind early and never quite finding the answer in a loss to Virginia Tech. The defeat dropped Brent Keys team to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC, adding more pressure as homecoming week approaches and the margin for error continues to shrink in league play.
Boston College is the next visitor, and the matchup arrives with a little more intrigue than a typical midseason cleanup opportunity. The Eagles are coming off an upset of Pittsburgh and bring quarterback Mason McKenzie to Atlanta, which gives Georgia Tech a chance to steady itself in front of an expected home crowd and keep from letting another winnable game slip away. There is a number attached to the game already, with the Jackets installed as a modest favorite in a contest projected to land around 50.5 points, but the bigger concern is whether they can finally turn a promising setting into a complete performance. Georgia Tech Finally Found Something On Offense But One Problem Remains
There were stretches in Saturdays 34-24 loss to Virginia Tech when Georgia Tech finally looked like it had found a little rhythm on offense. Mendoza delivered a career-high passing day, Allen was a reliable target with more than 100 yards on 10 catches, and the Yellow Jackets moved the ball well enough at times to suggest the passing game is rounding into something usable, even as the team fell to 2-4.
But the same old problem kept hovering over the effort. Georgia Tech continued to live with mistakes and defensive inconsistency, and the offense gave away points in back-breaking spots, including a fumble out of the end zone and a missed 32-yard field goal. For a team trying to dig out of an early hole, those are the kinds of plays that can make a promising afternoon look a lot like the rest of the season. [Read more 🡒]
Georgia Tech Just Got An Early Answer In Its 2026 Lineup Hunt
The fall exhibition season is supposed to be about discovery, and Georgia Tech got a useful one when it took a 6-4 win over Alabama and spent the afternoon sorting out which pieces might fit when the 2026 lineup comes into focus. Strong pitching helped steady the day, but the biggest sign of life came from Ryan Zuckerman, whose return to the program has already given the Jackets an added layer of experience and leadership in a group that is still being evaluated.
Head coach James Ramsey said the matchup offered exactly what he wanted: a chance to see his team against a quality SEC opponent and get a better read on who can handle that level of competition. Zuckermans presence has been one of the more interesting developments of the fall, both because of what he brings at the plate and because of how quickly he has settled back into a leading role, giving Georgia Tech an early answer while plenty of other questions remain open.
