Georgia Tech walks into Saturday’s matchup with Louisville carrying two very different possibilities: a fresh spark that could shake up the game, and a defensive problem that could make the night ugly fast.
The biggest swing factor is at quarterback. Brent Key hasn’t locked in a change yet, but he made clear it’s on the table. As he put it:
“Grady's come in the last two weeks and given us a jolt of energy. It’s always a lot easier coming off the bench as the guy, but uh we’ll sit down on Thursday and make a decision uh Thursday evening as a staff on who goes out and gives us the best opportunity to win this football game. That’s at all positions,” said Key.
Alberto Mendoza hasn’t been a total loss this season, but the last two weeks have been rough. Against Pittsburgh, he threw for just 81 yards and coughed up four fumbles, with two recovered by Pitt.
Adamson gave the Yellow Jackets a lift on the ground, though his passing wasn’t clean either. At 2-6, Georgia Tech has reached the point where almost anything should be considered, and Key may decide the gamble is worth it.
There’s also a path for the Yellow Jackets through Louisville’s defense. The Cardinals have been vulnerable all season, even if the schedule has included some strong offenses.
They rank 131st in passing yards allowed per game and 117th in total yards allowed per game. The question is whether Georgia Tech can actually find those soft spots and make them matter.
That said, Louisville has a habit of making things harder than they should be. When the Cardinals reached the ACC Championship Game under Brohm in 2023, their only conference loss came against a 5-7 Pittsburgh team.
In 2024, they fell to a 3-9 Stanford squad. Last season, after beating Miami, they lost at home to Cal.
Even this year, they dropped a game to an NC State team that might not make a bowl.
That’s the pattern: Louisville is good, Brohm is a strong coach, and yet the Cardinals still leave the door cracked for an upset now and then.
Still, the cleanest read on this game is simple. Louisville is the better team, and if it shows up with its best stuff, Georgia Tech may not have enough to keep pace.
The matchup also tilts heavily toward the Cardinals on the ground. Louisville is 9th in the country in rushing offense and has NFL talent in the backfield. Georgia Tech, meanwhile, is 134th in rush defense and doesn’t have much NFL talent on that side of the ball.
That makes the Yellow Jackets’ defense the other side of the story, and it could get long in a hurry. A few weeks ago, Georgia Tech gave up 399 rushing yards to Boston College, a number that says plenty about the kind of night this could become if Louisville gets rolling.
Brent Key is 0-2 against Jeff Brohm, with losses in his first game as full-time head coach to open the 2023 season and again on the road one year later. They did not meet in 2025, but Brohm has had the edge in this matchup, and that looks like the case again here.

Georgia Tech Has A New Problem Up Front Before Louisville
Georgia Techs first injury availability report of the week arrived with the kind of up-front concern teams hate to see this late in the season. Ahead of the Louisville matchup, the Yellow Jackets listed several players sidelined, adding another layer of uncertainty to an offensive line that has already had to absorb some shuffling as the calendar turns toward November.
The timing matters because the front has been a key part of Georgia Techs identity, and now the Jackets have to manage it with less depth than theyd like. Brent Key also noted that Josh Petty is being handled carefully after making his first career start, which leaves Georgia Tech balancing development and protection at a spot where every rep counts. Georgia Tech Faces A Bigger Problem Than Louisville This Week
Georgia Tech heads into Week 11 knowing the matchup with Louisville is only part of the challenge. The Yellow Jackets are trying to steady themselves after a season shaped by roster changes, injuries and a series of leadership transitions that have made consistency hard to find, and Brent Key has been candid about how much those factors have affected the teams performance.
Louisville brings a rushing attack that can put pressure on a defense already looking for answers, which makes the task in front of Georgia Tech even steeper. For the Jackets to have a real shot, they need a cleaner defensive effort and a more complete showing than they have been able to put together so far, because the margin for error in this one is thin. Georgia Ole Miss Injury Swings Could Reshape A Huge SEC Showdown
Georgias injury picture looks a little cleaner heading into a big SEC matchup with Ole Miss, and that matters in a game where depth can swing the night as much as the starters. The Bulldogs have only linebacker Amaris Williams officially ruled out, while a few other important names, including running back Chauncey Bowens and wide receiver Isiah Canion, are at least trending in a better direction on the availability report.
Ole Miss, meanwhile, is dealing with a much heavier hit to its roster, with nine players unavailable for the trip. The biggest absence is running back Kewan Lacy, whose separated shoulder leaves a major hole in the Rebels backfield and adds another layer of pressure to a game that already carries plenty of weight for both teams.
