Georgia Tech comes out of its bye week still searching for its first ACC win, and the numbers don’t do the Yellow Jackets many favors heading into Saturday’s home matchup with undefeated Duke.
ESPN analyst Bill Connelly’s SP+ sees Duke in control, projecting a 31-23 Blue Devils win and giving Duke a 70% chance to leave with the victory. ESPN FPI is also leaning heavily toward the visitors, pegging Georgia Tech at just 27.4% to win at home and pick up its second victory of the season.
Connelly describes SP+ this way: "As always: SP+ is a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency. It is a predictive measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football, not a résumé ranking."
For Georgia Tech, the problem has been bigger than one bad afternoon. Through the first four games of the 2026 season, the Yellow Jackets have been inconsistent on both sides of the ball and haven’t looked like the team many expected. That has put a spotlight on the basics: toughness, discipline, commitment and execution.
Those are the standards Georgia Tech has to get back to if it wants to steady itself. The message from inside the program is that this isn’t about quick fixes or empty slogans. It’s about leaders stepping up, the veterans setting the tone and the whole roster buying into what the team needs now.
“Right now we're 0 for four, right? 0 for four on those toughness, discipline, commitment to each other and to Georgia Tech, to the team, and then execution.
So during adversity, yeah, you go back and look at those things. Okay, now you got to ask why that isn't happening.
Um, and you find out the answers. But it's easy to say, oh, we got to play better.
Well, I mean, anybody can see that. That's not even close to being a right answer.
All right. Why did this happen?
Why has it happened? And I'm I'm talking about one game.
I'm talking about four games. I'm talking about 16 quarters of ball now.
All right. To go back and and look and see the things that that are continuous throughout games throughout all four of them,” said Key.

Georgia Tech Faces A Brutal Duke Test Brent Key Cant Dodge
After a bye week to reset, Georgia Tech is heading into a Duke matchup with a chance to pick up its second win of the season, but the timing comes with plenty of pressure attached. The Yellow Jackets have spent the break dealing with the kind of issues a week off does not erase on its own, especially on defense, where injuries have thinned the roster and the unit has struggled to hold up against both the run and the pass.
Brent Key has not tried to sugarcoat the situation, acknowledging the problems and making clear that changes and improvements have to come quickly. Losing starting cornerback Daiquan White only adds to the challenge, and Duke offers a tough measuring stick for a team trying to steady itself after an uneven start. For Georgia Tech, the bye offered a pause, but not much in the way of relief. [Read more 🡒]
