David Pollack didn’t take long to make noise at On3.
A day after being hired on Aug. 25, Pollack turned his attention to Texas and dropped a blunt message about the Longhorns’ situation in Austin.
His point wasn’t limited to Arch Manning and an offense that’s having trouble getting going in fall camp. He also spotlighted the noise building around the program away from the field.

For Texas, the timing is brutal. Any program can live with a few preseason questions, but dealing with drama a week before the opener is a different kind of headache.
The offense is part of the concern, sure. Manning and the unit are still searching for rhythm in camp, and that alone is enough to raise eyebrows.
But the bigger issue Pollack highlighted is everything else swirling around the program. Defensive back Ty'Anthony Smith was dismissed for conduct detrimental to the team, and a freshman’s parent also went on social media to criticize the coaching staff.
Those are not the kinds of stories Texas wants attached to it right now, especially with the season about to begin.
There’s also a wider SEC angle here. Georgia doesn’t have any known off-field issues hanging over its program, and with Texas viewed as one of the Bulldogs’ biggest challengers in the conference, any turbulence in Austin could end up mattering down the line.
The two teams won’t meet in the regular season, but they could see each other in the SEC Championship Game for the second time in three years. Oddsmakers have Georgia and Texas as the league’s top contenders, which means Texas is seen as the biggest threat to Georgia’s hold on the SEC.
Of course, Texas still has to navigate one of the toughest schedules in the conference. The Longhorns draw Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU and Texas A&M, and they also have Ohio State in Week 2. That’s a demanding slate even before you factor in a shaky offense and the distractions surrounding the program.
Georgia has plenty to handle on its own schedule before any possible matchup with Texas. But from the Bulldogs’ perspective, the more pressure and chaos their biggest conference challenger faces, the better.
