Talyn Taylor didn’t spend long waiting around to make his mark in Georgia’s 2026 opener.
After a freshman season that brought only 2 catches for 28 yards and no touchdowns, the Illinois receiver wasted no time showing what he can do as a sophomore. By the time the first quarter was winding down against Tennessee State, Taylor had already snapped the drought and given the Bulldogs another easy score in a game they were controlling from the jump.
Georgia was up 21-0 when it lined up for 2nd-and-3 at the Tigers’ 11-yard line late in the opening period. Taylor shifted in motion from left to right, and quarterback Gunner Stockton picked up the matchup immediately.
Stockton found him uncovered, and Taylor turned the play into more than just a simple catch. He sliced through a few Tennessee State defenders and danced into the end zone, stretching Georgia’s lead to 28-0 with 2:08 left in a first quarter packed with big plays for the home team.
For Taylor, it was the first touchdown of his college career after a scoreless 2025 freshman campaign in Athens.
The production kept coming early in the second quarter, too. With Georgia ahead 35-0, Taylor had already surpassed his catch total from all of last season, reaching 3 receptions and leaving plenty of room for more in 2026.
And if Georgia keeps getting that kind of added punch from its young receiver, the Bulldogs could have another dangerous weapon in the mix as they push for a third straight SEC title.
