Nick Chubb’s football journey may have taken him all the way to the NFL, but Friday night in Polk County brought him back to the place where it started.
Cedartown High School honored its retired star during “Legacy Night,” and the biggest moment of the evening was the retirement of Chubb’s jersey. From this point forward, No. 21 belongs to him alone.
“21 is just special to me,” Chubb said. “You know, my uncle gave me that number. He wore it here before me, and that’s where it all started.”
Chubb, now retired from the NFL and still a fan favorite in Georgia, returned to his alma mater with the same kind of pull he’s had for years. Eleven other coaches and players were recognized for their contributions to Cedartown, but the night clearly centered on Chubb and what he means to the program.
He also talked about how much the school still shapes him.
“I was 14 years old, had no idea what life was going to be for me,” Chubb reflected. “But, you know, it all started here. The work I put in on this field, I carried it with me all the way to the NFL.”
That connection to Cedartown is more than sentimental. Chubb is known to return to the school’s weight room to train, even with all the resources an NFL team could offer. For him, it’s still home.
And Friday showed it. Kids, adults, current Cedartown players, coaches, referees and even Adairsville players - who were on the field against the Bulldogs that night - lined up for a chance to greet him. One Adairsville defender even dapped up Chubb after a play brought him close to the Cedartown legend.
Chubb’s legend was built step by step, and it kept growing at Georgia, where he piled up 4,769 career rushing yards. That total puts him second in the Bulldogs’ record book, behind only Herschel Walker.

David Jacobs recent trip to Athens gave Georgia another chance to make its case in one of the most high-profile recruiting battles on the board. The five-star EDGE from Georgia is currently committed to Ohio State, but the Bulldogs have kept pressing for the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 class, and simply getting him back on campus was enough to keep the conversation going.
There is still plenty of time left in the cycle, with roughly three months before recruiting starts to move again in earnest, and the race remains far from settled. Georgia appears to have some momentum here, but whether that translates into a real shot at flipping Jacobs is still unclear, which is exactly why this one will linger for Bulldogs fans watching it unfold. Brock Bowers is headed into another frustrating stop on the knee-injury road, with a meniscus trim surgery set to keep him out of the Raiders Week 1 matchup against the Dolphins.
