Miami and Georgia Battle for Rising Star Quarterback CJ Cypher

As one of Georgias rising quarterback talents, CJ Cypher is already drawing serious attention from top programs, with Miami and Georgia making early moves in a competitive recruitment.

CJ Cypher: Georgia’s Next QB Phenom Already Drawing National Eyes

The state of Georgia has a history of producing elite quarterback talent, and it looks like Carrollton High School might have the next one up in the 2029 class: CJ Cypher.

Cypher stepped into a powerhouse program this past season and didn’t just hold his own-he made a strong case for more time under center. Even while splitting reps, his poise, arm talent, and feel for the game turned heads across the country. Coaches took notice, and now the recruiting buzz is starting to build in a big way.

Two programs are already emerging as early front-runners in the race for Cypher’s commitment: Miami and Georgia.

Let’s start with the Hurricanes, who’ve made a strong impression early. Miami’s staff has been aggressive and intentional in their pursuit, and it’s clear Cypher has felt that love.

When the Hurricanes offered, it wasn’t just a formality-it was a full-on team effort. Head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson gathered the staff and made it a moment, calling Cypher’s coach for a long, personal conversation before extending the offer.

That kind of attention doesn’t go unnoticed.

“They keep me up to date on stuff,” Cypher said. “They’ve just been calling my coach every week to keep me in the loop.”

It’s early, but that level of consistent contact and relationship-building has put Miami in a strong position. Right now, they may be the team to beat.

Still, don’t count out the in-state Bulldogs. Georgia has the built-in advantage of proximity-Carrollton to Athens is a manageable drive, and for Cypher’s family, that matters.

The idea of playing close to home, in front of friends and family, is always an appealing one. And Georgia’s staff, including head coach Kirby Smart, has kept the lines of communication open.

“They call my coach every now and then to check up on me,” Cypher said. “It’s amazing, especially because it’s down the road from here. For my parents too, they can just drop down to every game.”

Cypher also has connections on the current Georgia roster. He keeps in touch with Zykie Helton and Ryan Mosley-two players who’ve given him a glimpse of what life in Athens is like. That kind of peer insight can go a long way in a recruitment, especially when it comes from guys who’ve walked the same path.

“I still text Big Z and Ryan every now and then to check up on them and tell me how it is,” Cypher shared.

It’s still early in the process, but CJ Cypher is already showing why he’s one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2029 class. He’s got the tools, the presence, and now, the attention of major programs. Miami and Georgia are in the mix early, but with this kind of talent, expect more schools to jump in soon.

For now, though, the Peach State has another rising star under center-and the rest of the country is starting to take notice.
