Lane Kiffin Issues Alarming LSU Injury Update

With hopes of a return for standout players TreyDez Green and Whit Weeks, LSU looks to maintain momentum as they face off against SEC rival Kentucky.

LSU got a small dose of optimism Monday on the injury front, with Lane Kiffin saying tight end Trey’Dez Green and linebacker Whit Weeks are both expected to return “at some point” this season.

That still leaves both players sidelined indefinitely, but Kiffin’s update offered the clearest sign yet that neither injury is viewed as season-ending. Green and Weeks have been out since September, with Green dealing with knee issues after LSU’s Sept. 19 loss to Ole Miss and Weeks recovering from a lower-leg fracture suffered in the Tigers’ Sept. 26 win over Texas A&M.

“That will make us feel a lot better,” Kiffin said when asked about the overall state of the program. “Because those guys not just are great, All-American players.

They were the (number) sevens for a reason. They’re dynamic leaders on the field.”

Kiffin said LSU still doesn’t have a target date for Green, but he added that the junior tight end is no longer in a brace and is moving freely on the injured knee. The coach sounded encouraged about where Green stands in the recovery process.

“If there’s anybody that’s gonna come back sooner maybe than what people thought, it would be him,” Kiffin said. He’s getting closer.”

Weeks, meanwhile, was still on a scooter with a heavy wrap on his leg as of Saturday. He watched LSU’s 63-14 win over McNeese State from a suite in Tiger Stadium rather than from the sideline.

So far, the Tigers have managed just fine without them. LSU handled Texas A&M 35-6 in Week 4 and then rolled past McNeese State. In Weeks’ place, junior Davhon Keys got the start at linebacker, while LSU rotated transfer tight ends Malachi Thomas, Zach Grace and Roman Mothershed in Green’s spot.

Mothershed, who came over from Troy, caught a 1-yard touchdown in the win over McNeese. Keys added four tackles.

LSU now has seven games left, and every one of them comes against SEC opponents. The stretch begins Saturday at Kentucky at 6 p.m. on ABC/ESPN, followed by Mississippi State at home in Week 7 and Auburn on the road in Week 8. The Tigers will have an open date in Week 9 before their Week 10 home matchup with Alabama.

Georgia Alabama Suddenly Feels Bigger After A Surprising Betting Shift

Georgia has rolled through its first five games of the 2026 season, handling Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Arkansas while setting up one of the marquee tests on the schedule: a road trip to Alabama. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, and the matchup already carries the feel of a game that can reshape the SEC picture before the middle of the season.

Kirby Smarts remarks after the Vanderbilt win fit the mood around the Bulldogs, with the coach stressing how physical SEC football gets and praising quarterback Gunner Stockton for the way he has handled the load. Georgia has built momentum, but a trip to Tuscaloosa is where the conversation usually changes, and this one now feels even bigger with the way the market and the matchup have started to tilt. Georgia Should Be Watching Alabamas Injury Situation Very Closely

Alabamas injury picture is worth tracking with Georgia in mind, especially as the Tide try to get healthier before the matchup. Kalen DeBoer said there is optimism that Jayvin James could be back this week, while Desmond Umeozulu and Justin Hill are still working their way back and do not appear close to returning.

Jorden Edmonds is also out for an extended stretch after breaking his foot, adding another complication to Alabamas depth as it turns to Georgia prep. For the Bulldogs, the exact availability of those players matters because the Tides rotation and practice plan can shift quickly when bodies start coming and going this time of year. [Read more 🡒]

Georgias Week 5 Review Raised A Real Question About This Offense

SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic spent part of the week taking a close look across the SEC after Week 5, and Georgias offense ended up in the conversation for reasons that should matter to Bulldogs fans. In a detailed breakdown of 13 league teams, Cubelic used social media to sift through what stood out from the latest slate, from Alabamas road win at Mississippi State to Auburns loss to Tennessee, Floridas defeat at Missouri and Kentuckys overtime escape at South Carolina.

For Georgia, the review naturally sharpened the focus on where this offense is headed next. Week 5 did not just add another result to the ledger, it left a bigger question hanging over how consistent the unit can be against better competition. Cubelics film-based notes pointed to strengths and weaknesses around the league, and Georgias place in that larger picture suggests the Bulldogs are still searching for the kind of offensive rhythm that turns a good team into a fully settled one.
