Kirby Smart Celebrates Big News as Top QB Target Joins Georgia

Georgia's recruiting strategy gains momentum as top quarterback prospect Peter Bourque leans toward becoming a Bulldog.

Georgia is on a roll, assembling one of the most formidable recruiting classes for 2027. Yet, there’s a key piece missing: a quarterback. It took Kirby Smart and his team some time to zero in on their QB prospects, but once they did, they went all in.

For a while, progress with quarterback targets seemed slow. That changed dramatically with a visit from four-star quarterback Peter Bourque, who has shifted the landscape.

Bourque, a top 100 player nationally, recently decommitted from Michigan, and Georgia seems to be the catalyst behind this move. Since stepping away from the Wolverines, Bourque has been showing Georgia significant interest. While schools like Penn State and Virginia Tech are also in the mix, Georgia is emerging as the frontrunner.

Josh Newberg from Rivals highlighted that Georgia is gaining the most traction in Bourque’s recruitment. This surge isn’t surprising, given that Bourque's only visit since the February recruiting dead period was to Georgia in early March. That visit has clearly positioned Georgia as the leader in this race.

Bourque hasn’t set a date for his final decision yet. It’s likely he’ll extend his recruitment into the summer, allowing for more visits to Georgia and other contenders. But right now, Georgia is the team to beat, exactly where they want to be.

Kirby Smart and his staff can’t relax just yet, but knowing they’re leading in this crucial recruitment is a relief. They’ll need to maintain their momentum to secure Bourque’s commitment, a move that could solidify their already strong recruiting class.
