Joel Klatt’s latest top 10 quarterback list left out Gunner Stockton entirely, and for Georgia fans, that omission stands out.
Stockton isn’t the flashy prototype. He’s not the towering 6-foot-5 passer with a rocket arm. But what he has done on the field has been hard to ignore, especially after stepping in as a first-year starter and helping push Georgia through a season full of big moments.
The redshirt junior guided the Bulldogs to their second straight SEC Championship, and Georgia came a few plays short of knocking off Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. There were stretches where Stockton wasn’t just part of the win - he was the reason it happened.
One of the best examples came against Tennessee, when Stockton delivered a perfect touchdown pass to the back corner of the end zone on fourth down in the fourth quarter. Georgia would go on to win in overtime. He also delivered key moments in regular-season wins over Ole Miss, Texas, and others, using both his arm and legs to keep defenses off balance.
That dual-threat ability became a real weapon. Stockton even became the first Georgia quarterback since Fran Tarkenton to lead the Bulldogs in rushing touchdowns in the regular season.
Still, none of that was enough to crack Klatt’s top 10.
Klatt put CJ Carr inside his top five, even though Carr’s 2025 season came on a weaker schedule and included fewer passing yards, more interceptions, and more than 400 fewer rushing yards than Stockton’s. Klatt’s back end of the list also leaned heavily toward transfer quarterbacks entering new systems, with previous production that came against weaker competition.
Darian Mensah was another name that drew attention. Klatt favored him despite the fact that he had fewer than 250 passing yards and two interceptions in a loss to UConn. The contrast is what makes Stockton’s absence so striking: one quarterback was doing it against CFP teams and carrying Georgia in meaningful games, while others were being elevated off projections and numbers built against softer schedules.
For Georgia, Stockton’s case is simple. He’s already shown he can win when the lights are brightest.
