Gunner Stockton isn’t interested in the noise.
When the Georgia quarterback was told that social media critics have been coming after offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, Stockton made it clear he sees something different behind the scenes. That defense came just after Kirby Smart had already backed his coordinator from the podium at SEC Media Days, and Stockton didn’t hesitate to echo the sentiment.
“Coach Bobo, I think he gets the best out of everybody. I know he gets the best out of me and all my teammates cause a lot of people have criticism,” Stockton said.
“They don’t get to see the day in and day out thing that Coach Bobo does. He barely sleeps during the week, during the game week.
But just they don’t see all the work he puts in, the love he has for the university, the love he has for all my teammates and me. I truly don’t think nobody understands how hard he works.
And I think he’s the best play caller in the country. And I’m just really excited for this season.”
Bobo entered the job with big expectations after Todd Monken left for the NFL, and he’s been a target for some fans who believe he hasn’t quite met them. Stockton’s message was simple: the people outside the building don’t see the full picture.
The conversation around Georgia’s offense isn’t going away, either. The Bulldogs need a more dangerous passing game in 2026, and they’ve got plenty to sort out at receiver with Colbie Young, Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas gone to the NFL, along with tight end Oscar Delp.
Still, there’s plenty of reason to think Stockton’s senior year could be his best. In 2025, he threw for just under 3,000 yards with 24 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, and his 84.9 QBR ranked No. 6 in the country. The real test now is whether he and Bobo can consistently push the ball downfield.
Georgia opens the season on September 5 against Tennessee State.
