Georgia can spend its bye week watching scoreboard chaos and hoping the college football landscape bends back in its favor.
After last week’s home loss to Auburn, the Bulldogs took a hit, but nothing is out of reach. Their goals are still right there: win the SEC, get back on track, and make a run at the CFP. The problem is that Georgia could use a little outside help to make that path smoother.
The biggest targets this weekend are the three teams tied with Georgia at the top of the SEC standings with one loss: Ole Miss, Kentucky and Tennessee. If those teams stumble, Georgia’s road to Atlanta gets a lot cleaner.
Kentucky appears to have the easiest assignment, as the Wildcats host Vanderbilt, so a loss there looks unlikely. Ole Miss has the tougher draw, heading to Texas, which gives the Rebels a real chance to pick up another defeat. Tennessee travels to South Carolina in a game the Vols should be able to handle, but Vegas has the Gamecocks winning by a couple points.
If all three were to lose, it would be a perfect Saturday from Georgia’s perspective. That outcome is probably a long shot, but there’s at least a decent chance one of them slips.
The Bulldogs would also benefit from a few other upsets around the SEC and beyond. LSU and Alabama still remain in the SEC Championship hunt despite two losses, so another defeat for either team would basically knock them out of the race. Both are favored, but the weekend still gives Georgia a chance to breathe easier.
There’s also a playoff-seeding angle to watch. Georgia doesn’t need help getting into the CFP, but after the Auburn loss, every bit of help matters when it comes to positioning.
No. 1 Miami and No.
2 BYU are both unbeaten and favored this week, but if either drops a game, Georgia should move back ahead of them in the rankings.
Other playoff-contending teams, including Indiana, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC and Iowa, are also in action. They are ranked behind Georgia, so their results matter less right now, but more losses for those teams would still help if Georgia slips again later this season.
In the end, the simplest answer still applies: keep winning, and Georgia will take care of its own business. But on a bye week, there’s nothing wrong with rooting for a little chaos elsewhere.

Georgia Fans Just Got A Reassuring Sign About Elite QB Commit
Jayden Wades visit to Michigan over the weekend gave Georgia fans another reason to pay attention to the recruiting trail, even if the trip was not made with the Bulldogs in mind. The five-star quarterback, committed to Georgia in the 2028 class, took in Michigans game against Indiana while the Wolverines continue to search for answers on offense and work through a season that has not exactly sold itself to elite passers.
For Georgia, the visit matters because Michigan has a long history of flipping recruits and making late gains with top talent, especially when a high-profile prospect gets a firsthand look at the program. But with the Wolverines struggling in the passing game and the team performance not helping the pitch, Wades time in Ann Arbor may have done more to steady Georgias position than threaten it, even if his recruitment still has a long way to go. Georgia-Florida Suddenly Feels Bigger After What Happened At Auburn
Georgia and Florida are already meeting in an unusual spot this year, with the rivalry game shifting to Atlanta because of renovations at Jacksonvilles stadium, the longtime home of the series since 1995. The move alone gives the matchup a different feel, and it lands at a time when both fan bases are looking at this one with a little more edge than usual.
The game is set for 3:30 p.m. EST and will air on ABC, the ESPN app and Fubo TV, with Georgia entering as a 10.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook. ESPNs matchup predictor gives the Bulldogs an 82.1 percent chance to win, but rivalry games have a way of making even comfortable numbers feel a little less secure. [Read more 🡒]
Georgia Is Back In Position But Rivalry Games Will Decide Everything
After the Week 8 AFCA Football Coaches Poll put Georgia third behind Miami and Ohio State, the Bulldogs have settled back into a familiar spot near the top of the national conversation. At 6-1, they are still very much in the mix, but the loss to Auburn served as a reminder that even in a season with playoff-level expectations, there is little margin for error in the SEC.
Kirby Smart said the bye week has been used for an individualized approach to recovery and improvement, a chance to address different needs across the roster before the next stretch begins. Now the focus shifts to Florida, and for Georgia, the seasons biggest judgment will likely come from the rivalry games still ahead rather than anything already behind it. [Read more 🡒]
