Nate Frazier’s availability for Georgia’s Week 4 matchup with Oklahoma is still up in the air, and the final injury report didn’t clear things up. Frazier remained questionable on Friday, leaving his status unresolved heading into Saturday.
The concern traces back to Georgia’s win over Arkansas, when Frazier was seen limping off the field twice in the second half. After a few minutes in the injury tent, he was spotted heading back to the locker room and did not return. Even so, Kirby Smart offered a positive read afterward.
After the Arkansas game, Smart said that Frazier likely could've returned if they needed him. That sounded encouraging at the time, and Smart followed it up Monday by saying he expected Frazier to be good to go by Saturday.
But the injury reports never matched that optimism. Frazier was listed as questionable on Wednesday, stayed that way on Thursday, and remained questionable on Friday’s final report.
The longer he sat on that designation, the more the worry built. There’s still reason for hope based on Smart’s comments, but Frazier has not been officially cleared.
If Georgia ends up without him, the Bulldogs do have options. Chauncey Bowens has been one of the best backup running backs in the SEC and looks capable of handling a bigger role. Bo Walker and Dwight Phillips also appear ready for more touches.
Still, losing Frazier would matter. He leads Georgia in rushing with 202 yards and five touchdowns on just 24 carries, and he has looked like one of the SEC’s best backs, if not one of the best in the country. Even with depth behind him, Georgia’s offense is better when he’s available.
That’s especially true against an Oklahoma defensive front that could be the toughest unit Georgia sees all season. Having Frazier would give Georgia another weapon to throw at that group.
Georgia fans should know soon whether he’ll be on the field. The Bulldogs are expected to win either way, but they’ll like their chances more with Frazier in the lineup.
