Georgia’s Oct. 17 meeting with Auburn in Athens already matters for the usual reasons. This year, though, it may also carry real recruiting weight.
The Bulldogs are set to host the Tigers, and the visit list could include the No. 1 recruit in the 2028 class, EDGE Kameron McGee. McGee recently said he has been getting a lot closer to Georgia, and he also said he plans to be in Athens for the Auburn game. That gives Kirby Smart and his staff a major opportunity to make a move.
What happens on the field could shape what happens afterward. If Georgia handles Auburn the way it usually has, that could strengthen its position with McGee. If the Bulldogs stumble, the impact could be just as loud in the other direction.
Georgia’s track record in this rivalry helps its case. The Bulldogs have beaten Auburn nine straight times, and eight of those wins came by double digits. Keeping that streak going would only add to the appeal of the visit.
McGee would be a huge piece for Georgia’s 2028 class, which already has two commits and currently sits No. 5 in the country. The Bulldogs have five-star quarterback Jayden Wade, the No. 2 overall recruit, and tight end Asa Wall, the No. 120 player nationally. Adding McGee would push that group into another tier.
Georgia last signed the nation’s top class in 2024, and with the 2027 class sitting just inside the top 10, the Bulldogs would love a strong response in 2028. Landing McGee could be the difference.
Right now, Georgia is battling Notre Dame, Oregon and Miami for his commitment. Notre Dame is viewed as the favorite, but the Athens visit later this fall could give Georgia a real opening to change that conversation.
