Georgia’s path through the 2026 season looks manageable on paper, and ESPN’s Football Power Index agrees. The Bulldogs, fresh off back-to-back SEC titles, are projected to be favored in every game on their schedule as they try to climb past the Sugar Bowl roadblock that has ended the last two seasons.
That Sugar Bowl frustration is part of the backdrop here. Notre Dame squeezed Georgia into submission in the 2024 game, and Ole Miss won a shootout in last year’s edition. Now Kirby Smart and Gunner Stockton are the ones tasked with pushing Georgia beyond that point.
The toughest tests are obvious. Road trips to Alabama and Ole Miss stand out, but even those matchups still tilt toward Georgia in FPI’s view.
The Bulldogs’ highest-risk stretch comes on Oct. 10 at Alabama, where ESPN gives them a 58.1% chance to win. The Nov. 7 trip to Ole Miss is next on the danger list at 69.0%.
Elsewhere, the numbers are much more comfortable. Georgia opens with Tennessee State on Sept. 5 and is given a 99.9% win probability in that game.
Western Kentucky follows on Sept. 12 at 98.1%, then Arkansas on Sept. 19 at 90.2%. Oklahoma comes to the schedule on Sept. 26, and Georgia is still favored there at 77.0%.
The middle of the slate keeps the Bulldogs in solid position. Vanderbilt on Oct. 3 is a 90.2% Georgia win, Auburn on Oct. 17 is 84.4%, Florida on Oct. 31 is 80.6%, Missouri on Nov. 14 is 86.6%, South Carolina on Nov. 21 is 80.0%, and Georgia Tech on Nov. 28 checks in at 94.2%.
Taken together, FPI gives Georgia an implied win total of 10.08. That would not be a disaster by any measure, but the standard in Athens is higher than simply getting back to 10 wins and falling in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals again.
Georgia begins the 2026 season against Tennessee State on Sept. 5 at 3:00 p.m. E.T. on SEC Network+.
