Georgia’s offense took an early hit in Fayetteville when Isiah Canion went down in the first quarter against Arkansas and was not expected to return after suffering a right knee injury.
Canion, a transfer from Georgia Tech, came into the season expected to play a major role in the Bulldogs’ revamped attack. The 6-foot-4 junior brings speed and a real ability to win contested catches, a profile that drew comparisons to Colbie Young from Georgia’s roster last year. But through the opening stretch of the season, his production had been modest, with three catches for 28 yards.
The injury came on a no-contact play, with Canion seen hobbling toward the sideline even though the ball wasn’t headed his way. An update shared during the game said he was not expected to return, and the report identified the injury as to his right knee.
That leaves Georgia looking to other receivers to absorb the snaps and touches. Craig Dandridge, the true freshman, had already been involved with an end-around early in the game and figures to see more opportunities.
Sacovie White-Helton has also been active, with a couple of key catches already. Talyn Taylor had not yet made much noise, but his explosiveness with the ball in his hands makes him a natural candidate for a bigger role.
Nate Frazier, who already had several touches and a touchdown, should also continue to see the ball as Georgia leans on its strength up front.
For now, Georgia appears positioned to keep moving even without Canion on the field. The bigger question is how serious the knee issue is, especially with Oklahoma coming to Athens next week.
