Georgia is still the team to beat in the latest 247Sports SEC poll, holding on to the No. 1 spot as Week 6 arrives and conference races start to tighten. Texas stays right behind the Bulldogs at No. 2, with Alabama checking in third and Ole Miss moving up to fourth.

The rest of the top half is crowded with LSU at No. 5, Missouri at No.

Vanderbilt comes in at No. 14, followed by South Carolina at No. 15 and Arkansas at No. 16.

Missouri made the biggest jump in the poll after blasting Florida 45-17 on Saturday, climbing three spots in one week. Ole Miss, LSU, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt each moved up one place as well.

Florida took the hardest tumble after the loss in Columbia, sliding more than any other team in the latest rankings. Mississippi State was the only other program to drop multiple spots, falling two after Alabama beat the Bulldogs 56-23.

Oklahoma and South Carolina also slipped one spot apiece from the previous week.

The poll is being compiled by writers from across the 247Sports network for the fourth straight season, with each week’s rankings reflecting how the conference race is taking shape as teams chase both playoff positioning and a place in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

Week 7 is loaded with conference matchups across the league. Texas A&M heads to Missouri, South Carolina visits Florida, Texas and Oklahoma meet in Dallas, Ole Miss travels to Vanderbilt, Tennessee plays at Arkansas, LSU goes to Kentucky and Georgia takes on Alabama. Georgia Alabama Showdown Suddenly Faces A Serious SEC Problem

A storm building in the Gulf of Mexico has put the Georgia-Alabama matchup on shaky ground, with the weather threat now hanging over one of the SECs most anticipated games. Chief meteorologist James Spann has said there is a chance the system could strengthen into a hurricane and come ashore near Mobile Bay, a development that has already prompted the league to start thinking through contingency plans.

For Georgia fans, the concern is no longer just about travel or tailgating, but whether the game stays where it is scheduled to be played at all. The SEC is weighing options that include moving the contest to another stadium or pushing it back, and a final call is expected once the weather picture becomes clearer. [Read more 🡒]

Georgia Heads To Alabama With Confidence And One New Concern

Georgia heads into its trip to Alabama sounding like a team that expects to handle the moment, not be overwhelmed by it. Defensive tackle Elijah Griffin set the tone with his confidence and his sense that the group is ready to meet the challenge head-on, while Kirby Smart and the staff have kept their focus on the same old job of preparing for a road game that always carries extra weight in this rivalry.

The one wrinkle this week has nothing to do with the opponent and everything to do with the weather, as Georgias coaches are keeping an eye on a tropical storm that could alter conditions around the game. Griffin also talked about his own performance and the role he is trying to fill for the Bulldogs, adding another layer to a matchup where Georgias mindset appears settled even if the setting is not. Georgias Line Faces Its Biggest Test Yet At Alabama

Earnest Greene III has been around enough Georgia-Alabama games to know the tenor changes fast once September gives way to a trip to Tuscaloosa. The veteran left tackle talked this week about past matchups with the Crimson Tide and the value of continuity along the offensive line, where chemistry can matter as much as brute strength when the opponent across from you is as demanding as Alabamas defense.

Greene said he feels healthy and ready for the challenge, and for Georgia that matters because the job description is clear: keep Gunner Stockton upright and give the offense a chance to function under pressure. The Bulldogs know what this type of road test usually asks of a line, and Greenes experience adds a steadying presence as Georgia heads into one of its most difficult measuring sticks. [Read more 🡒]
